Cool to hear the drifter coming back into play. Sounds like a smart move for holding a freezer and a campsite !

Love my Jackery's. Watching your videos is what made me buy them. I have the 160 and 240. I bought an aftermarket solar panel that I use. I tell all my friends how reliable they are. I use them for emergencies and doing amateur radio. Thanks

I like your idea of using the trailer as a base camp/ supply wagon!

I’m over on the bay side for the weekend. Besides also realizing a strong hi-lift 5x8 toy hauler trailer was needed to bring a 4x4 ATV, spare fuel, food, and water along on dispersed camping trips, now because of ‘fuel costs gone wild’, I’ve recently added an adventure hardened street legal Honda MSX125 Grom, with its 165 mpg, to use to leave ‘base camp’ for quick runs back to towns on errands. I am still spoiled by my gas thrifty 800w running generator used to top off my Jackerys, that I’ve procrastinated mounting any solar. Enjoy the clamming, fishing, and these cooler temps. Fair Winds.

I’m so excited for the Drifter to return to the channel. I love that thing and want one so bad! Best of luck with the new system. 🤙🏻

For a lot of reasons I think the trailer is a good idea. As far as the Jackery goes, that Hobo guy has a Jack converter for the Jackery that will allow you to use your own panels. I looked into this and many other solar generators for all the reasons you listed. I’ve settled on the Bluetti AC 200 Max. Wanting to go off grid I can use this in my Suburban when I’m in that. It’ll run my camper on my Ford when I’m done with that, and it would be capable of running my travel trailer if needs be or a small cabin I’m hoping to put on a property on its own or with the expansion packs you can add to it. All of this with existing solar on the any of the vehicles without removing any of it. I was very sold on the Jackery, but the more I looked into them the more I realized they are awesome, but they are the iPhone of solar chargers, very proprietary. And I believe, though it’s not a deal breaker for me, the Etti has a Bluetooth option. The trailer is definitely a good thing. It won’t cost you much to tow and then you have a base to work and resupply from. I’ve been wanting to build a small trailer that would carry an additional food and water supply, as well as a spare generator with extra fuel and solar charger with 800-1200 watts of panels that could be tied into the solar on my travel trailer or the cabin. Literally a “utilities” trailer that could run my off grid property, but be mobile. Just my thoughts. Great to see you guys out there. Can’t wait till I’m in that position. Just came back from the Central Coast, hoping to tour the whole Ca. coast in the next few months to see how the suburban does. Maybe change out half way with the camper for the northern end. Be safe.

Good insights. RE: Bluetooth. First is that its a drain on battery power, and its use requires yet another drain on battery power (a smart phone.) Second, its a complication/potential failure point. These aren't bad problems if you are convenience camping, but can be a problem if you are trying to minimize.

Different 12 volt ports and places to hook into would also open up an option for small boats and kayaks. It would be a great option for lighting and fish finders. It would be especially great on the smaller units

Jason, I fully agree with you on the Anderson plugs which would be much more secure in the rinky-dink cigarette lighter adapter. I’ve had more than one occasion where my Jackery was not charging properly because the cigarette lighter adapter doesn’t work very well. Keep up the great content love your videos it was good seeing you at Overland ExpoNorthwest 😎👍

Very nice... honestly had to laugh. I was thinking "you need a trailer...". Then sure enough the next thing you said. You were bringing back your trailer. Very funny coincidence...
I do have to agree about the blue tooth. Especially with the fact it cost 3500 bucks ! I don't think a Generac household backup generator costs that much... ? But should have Bluetooth and better controls to turn things on and off...
I do think since your incorporating your trailer... very cool idea... To look around for a small portable diesel generator [military DRMO / surplus]. To tie into your whole system. [Military mobile electric power distribution system]. That would really enable you guys to stay remote for a long period of time by combining the systems. Especially when the weather changes. Both would compliment each other. Setup three phases one the trailer two your van and three her van. You can switch easily from one generator to the other. Use the Jackery for the majority of the time and the other to be backup. Diesel is better than gas in that you set it to the load ... 80% ... and let it run. Since you have the Jackery and you can make it the primary you wouldn't use hardly any fuel... since it is not running. This is really cool because you have the ability to be very self sufficient for long periods of time.

Excellent review and thoughts from you regarding improvements by Jackery...especially your Bluetooth idea. That price although probably reasonable is well out of range for most of us van lifers. I have the two "smallest" Jackery units and after being on the road for eight months have found they meet my present needs. I have a 20 liter Alpicool fridge but would like to invest in a larger unit like what you have, Iceco? So, I may have to rethink my Jackery setup. Man, between Covid and soaring gas/food prices van life is becoming a learning process of adaptation. Good luck to you and Megan.

Some people dont like the (NMC) batteries the Jackery uses because they don't last as long (fewer recharges) than LiFePO4 but it should still last many years. But NMCs are much lighter and take up less space than LiFePO4. The tech changes so fast that either will be outdated before the batteries degrade very much.

Definitely the Explorer 2000 Pro will save you gas, but it sure is very expensive and pray that it works for a long time.
