256gb of ecc ddr4 rdimm ram on an asus x99 rampage v extreme

I only did this because I couldn't find 0 direct answers to the question that no one else but me asked. unknown as to how long it'll work longterm as I don't think this was ever validate to work but I had a board and ram to do the test. this was a very interesting experiment to do and hopefully helpful to someone that might want to give this a go.

Had this question for as long as I had my X99 and 6950X . Stopped at 128GB RAM, but good to know 256GB ECC works just fine

Hey man. Yeah I got the same result as you, using an E5-2680 V4, with 2400MHz RDIMM ECC (8x32Gigs). But curiously enough, I tried using 2x64Gigs 2933MHz, no luck error 53.

"not that anybody really cares" well you have one person that cares, i have a r5e that im looking to turn into a server/pc combination and i was looking for info if i could run 256gb of ram to make it a proper big upgrade over my r3e wit 48gb of ram

i do care bro, i do really care its such a hassle to find proper infos or similar combinations of rigs to validate if ecc modules wiml run properly on this motherboard even without the ecc function enabled to at least get the dimm size.

I do have a Rampage V Edition 10 paired with a 2687w v4 and hoping i can slap in a chip 4x 32GB kit of RDIMM in it, tried with EUDIMM and it does work albeit non-ECC mode, but these are sadly comming at a higher price than traditional RDIMMs, do you think my setup would be able to recognize this type of RAM layout?

I got one of those Chinese x99 dual socket motherboards its the Huananzhi F8D Plus and need to get some Ram for it. What type of ECC should I look into getting? Registered ECC or will it only work with unbuffered? I also wanna try for 256gb. Thanks..
