Today we look at Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2 and The Bazaar, three games that showcase how Blizzard Entertainment, creators of Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Heathstone, Diablo and many more classics, are now in a terrible state as they face fierce competition in games they used to dominate that were considered some of the best games ever made.

I redid this like 4 times because I didn't want to blab on for 2 hours about all the history lessons of Blizzard. So instead, here's a video about the great games that I think are the successors of the Blizzard we knew and loved! I'm (mostly) happy with the result, and I think this is the best edited video I've made, so hopefully it only gets better from here! Thank you for your support, and see you soon! (Also subscribe!)

There's this twisted mix of feelings inside me, while I watch titans of the industry fall. Sadness about what we've lost, but also a petty satisfaction, when they get what they deserve.

Diablo 4 didn't literally put me to sleep twice because I was comparing it to other games... it was just boring to play.

I still have no idea how Blizzard is still in business after the Cosby Suite allegations

"I hope the positivity that I want to inspire in the video game community (...) comes across in my videos"
Mug, that's exactly why I subbed. You're one of the few creators I've come across that actually manages to address the issues and sensitive topics without coming across like you're trying to grift or just stoke the fires.
You actually offer your perspective and aren't afraid to point out even the smallest crumbs of good in the gaming community while still addressing the bad, and sounding genuine all throughout.
I'm excited to see what you'll be cooking for us next year c:

It's the classic excuse, "Blizzard killed itself". I do think the market took such a long time to match Blizzard's standards, that lead to complacency. Blizzard was challenged in the early 00s, Company of Heroes 1 is right up there with Starcraft 1 and 2, the rts genre was very competitive. But regarding mmo, the "arpg" (Diablolike, the name itself is an example of a pseudo monopoly), digital card games, hero shooter... Blizzard never really had competition, maybe a couple of Diablo clones here and there, I honestly don't know if WoW ever had fierce competition before FF14 surged into the scenes... but here we are. For Marvel Rivals to be vastly superior if compared to Overwatch, that was not a surprise, but then you look at Marvel Snap and Path of Exile taking over, that was surprising tbh

To be fair. People like PoE2 because it does NOT innovate. It does NOT take risks and does NOT try anything new. It iterates (successfully) on d2.

Mugs probably my most trusted youtuber, everything he's praised seems fun. I decided to try Tainted Grail after watching his review. There's been tons of Skyrim imitations, but wow did it hit the mark for me, but more metal.

Nah, Blizzard was Ended by Activision. Why nobody blames Activision?

The MOBA genre is not a Blizzard invention. They just happened to be present when it happened. Defence of the Ancients was a WarCraft 3 MOD. Blizzard only realised how valuable it was until long after that got out of their hands. That's why DotA2 is a Valve property, not a Blizzard property. Furthermore, the concept of "characters with identities and abilities" is far from new - and far older than Overwatch. It's generally rooted in the MOBA genre, but predates even that. WarCraft 3 already worked like that, and Kingdom Under Fire worked like that before that. Then there's stuff like SMITE, and Tribes: Ascend before that. Overwatch didn't "invent" anything. Overwtach did an old thing well.

Could you please make a couple videos of you opening up packs or playing the Pokémon TCG pocket game?

I like way to enjoy it, all these other channels are just so exaggeratedly excited about it and I know you were being a little sarcastic, but that’s just the right kind of excitement I want to see in a 3-4 hour long video so I can work to it while it plays in the background.

I’m realizing this comment sounds sarcastic, but I genuinely really mean this.

Like other comments say, the title is misleading. You have to look at the PEOPLE who caused it.
Robert Kotick and shareholders especially, like you said around 8:09. All of the original Blizzard devs are long gone now.
Look at cause (people) before effects (games).

I think there is one more facet to the boundles greed theme. It cuts not only against their customers but also against their employees. I do think the kind of toxic internal enviroment described in the numerous complaints, investigations and exposees contributed to the games lacking the innovation they once might have had (in addition to being unacceptable in its own right, of course).

My brother and i used to stay up late talking about WoW since the game has been in our house since the burning crusade, he was 9 and i 6, he past away back in the shadowlands and i now just look at the game as a sibling that lost it way

D3: A horrible extension of an IP coupled with it's auction house is what did it for me. I haven't bought a Blizzard game since. Offer D2 remaster on GOG with the original Amazon character aesthetic and no Battlenet requirement for a decent price and I would pick it up.
