Building an 8' x 12' hoop house from pvc and 2x4s

In this video I document the process for building a hoop house measuring 8' wide by 12' long by 7' tall at the peak. I used half inch pvc pipes for the main hoops, 2x4" lumber for the base frame, 1x2" lumber to attach the greenhouse plastic. The greenhouse plastic was ordered online from a company called Farmer's Friend.

I built the hoop house over my manual well pump because I wanted to protect it from frost and have a comfortable space to pump water during winter or rain. I will be attempting to grow cold hearty plants like Kale and Spinach in the hoop house as well. Next year, I would like to use this as a space to start seedlings early as well.

I might end up installing a heat source in here like a barrel stove or rocket mass heater

Nice video. I think this is a good balance between cost and functionality. Thanks for the inspiration!

You've thought of everything. I want to use your design to make my hoop house. I'm in the northeast, it get's cold and I've been thinking how to make a hybrid Hoophouse/greenhouse. This is it. I'm thinking I could make removeable Polycarbonate panes in wood frames for the bottom in winter. I could probably frame up higher and add permanent polycarbonate frames to the point the angle meet and starts to curve.

Thank you for making this video my daughter and I are going to build it as her passion project for school. If you have any other tips or thoughts we appreciate any input.

Maybe you could use the pvc clips to hold the plastic closed on the lower part where the plastic rolls up.

How is this holding up 1 year in? I had similar in Ireland (milder winters), but the sides were sealed and secure because it didn't get hot enough to need ventilation. I am in Canada now and will have snow in the winter and needing side vents in the summer. Curious how it held up for you

What about using your 3/4 inch clamps?

I keep getting told that PVC pipe will not bend, is not flexible. So what PVC pipe are you buying from Home Depot??
