Alesia Michelle is giving her review for Spain's #Eurovision entry from Blas Canto. Blas Cantó, is a versatile artist, a perfectionist and a performer who thrives in front of a live audience that he won't really have at Esc 2021. Since he was a teenager, he dreamed of participating in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2021 will take place in Rotterdam. The Dutch city was due to host the Contest in 2020 before the event was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Semi-Finals will take place on 18 and 20 May 2021. The Grand Final takes place on 22 May 2021.

Blas confirmed he’s making a new version of the song, but we will only be able to listen to It on the grand final. He said that he’s keeping the acapella start, but the second part of the song is different and stronger, I’m really excited because this song makes me really emotional! Also I think that the language barrier is really strong in this entry because me being from Argentina I feel so emotional when I listen to It because It reminds me of my grandma (the song is about his grandma that sadly passed away)

Big 5 + host country should also perform live in the semis... I’ve been saying this for a while. Showing a little snippet of the performance is wrong. Just don’t add a number for people to vote for them. They still automatically qualify.

Whilst it's not Eurovision competitive on the surface, it can be properly sold and marketed. They can sell the story of his granny, add the hologram, sell it as the only COVID-related song this year and pull a similar thing to what Ieva did with "When We're Old".

To make the Big 5 more competitive - here's my idea. Have a big 6 (adding another potential big-spender i.e. Netherlands or Sweden or Russia), then every year the lowest finisher in the grand final of the big 6 has to compete in the semi finals the following year. This would ensure they are kept keen in the final, and if they find themselves in the semi-final, they will have to pull out all the stops to ensure they qualify for that year's final.

You’re so on point! I’m from Spain, living in the US and a huge ESC fan. Your comments about the pros and cons of the song, of being part of the Big 5, and the need for Spain to try to come up with something more out there, something that people in Europe can get fully behind are right on point. Of course, even when we send top notch material (i.e. Pastora Soler and Ruth Lorenzo), we only manage to place 10th... But, that’s a different issue; we don’t have a big geopolitical fan base that can take us to a Top 5 finish. Hopefully, one year soon we will achieve the magic formula.

I have this as #1 because I've been following his journey and I know a lot of context behind the song. The music video is very elegant and sells the song much better than the NF performance (RTVE and their standard messiness... doing it yet again). I agree with any comments that say that this is very safe, because it is, and like you said Alesia... Blas WILL DELIVER VOCALS! The man can SING, and he has the voice of an angel, that's it. I admit my bias of usually falling for anything Spain sends to ESC, but I understand all the criticism it's getting.

I love the CV at the beginning of the video! That's why I subscribe, that's why I'm a fan, that's what I appeciate the most about your channel. Not just opinions 'cause I can get that elsewhere, like in my own head for example. But not everybody has the credentials that you have. =)

I feel Spain always gets a positive reception from the fandom, and they really only underperform at the Grand Final because RTVE messed up the staging/sound mixing. I read recently that RTVE is super controlling over every aspect of the performance. RTVE does seem to stage ballads better, and the national selection performance was stunning! Let's hope they can get the backing vocals sorted.

it doesn't matter if its safe or not, in 2019 we sent the most uplifting and fun song and we ended almost in the last place, Spain will be forever underrated. I actually think the big five come strong this year but I don't feel Spain is below England or Germany AT ALL. Italy and France have super good entries though can't deny that

I like it better than Universo. I was a little underwhelmed when I first heard it but I gave it a chance and it really grew on me. Not an easy song to sing live but he can pull it of. It’s in my top 10, I hope that there will be a certain audience (maybe people that are a little older) that will like and vote for this

Gurl you had me whipping my hair because Queen, Speak them truths!!! The fact that I like many have Germany higher than Spain comes down to Charisma and Care! Jendrick LOVES Eurovision, his dream is to go to Eurovision, his song has a message and reflects who he is, AND most importantly he has a Broadcaster that is in 100% with him. THIS MAKES US CARE! With Spain RTVE doesn't want to win Eurovision and doesn't really care about the product sent. Blas bless his soul and talent, can only do so much with that. His song is personal and beautiful but you can tell he can't wait until he can break-up with RTVE. Blas is so beloved that come what may the Spanish people will continue to embrace him. I think Sweden needs to be the new S Country in the Big 5 tbh.

A great case of talented singer being brought down by a mediocre song...Blas even spoke about how RTVE ignores his suggestion about changes that could be done to the overall selection.

I totally agree with what you said in this video, however there is one paradox. Italy is always in the higher part of the left hand side of the scoring board. We do not count anymore their top 5 finishes. And it is also a big 5 country that does not take part to the finals, build momentum with the fans etc. What is their secret to connect in such a way with the audience? Why Spain is systematically less credible or competitive when the grand finale comes?

I just don't see anyone giving this song their votes. all the other songs just stand out much more

I honestly think that Spain is currently the fabourite to last place in the final... This song is just so unmemorable.
