I came across a design for a chandelier made from test tubes that were filled with colored water, so I decided to make my own version of the project.

Your chandelier is missing a very important feature I guess... EMITTING LIGHT YOU GENIUS.

That's really cool. I love spirals and rainbows and test tubes. However it isn't quite a chandelier -- chandeliers have lighting in them. It's more of a mobile. But it's still awesome.

Design could be improved by adding some fibre optic cable to transmit light from the base through the cables and into the test tubes. That would allow the colours to emit light and add a cool effect to create a true chandelier.

*Improve the Design*

Chandelier meaning:
noun
a decorative hanging light with branches for several light bulbs or candles

How to improve the design:

1. At the video point 1:03, apply a positive and negative small wire, through the hole you have drilled.
2. The wires you have now threaded through the hole should be connected to a small LED. be sher to use heat shrink tubing on the connections once the LED's are soldered to the wires.
3.Add a power system, resister, on and off switch and glue/screw the power pack to the base on the roof.
4.on the base (at the video point 2:20) add a small spacer between the roof and the base for space for the wires

How to improve the design. (For the Advanced / Willing)
You will need to watch:

Optional: (If you need an idea for the wire set up, and or want a kit with some basics)

2. The wires you have now threaded through the hole should be connected to a small LED. be sher to use heat shrink tubing on the connections once the LED's are soldered to the wires.
3.Add a power system with an Arduino, configure the code based on the aspects in the Weekend Projects link.
4.on the base (at the video point 2:20) add a small spacer between the roof and the base for space for the wires and the power pack and/or ground wire.

Feel free to change any of the details to best fit a optimal setting.

Give it some *Thumbs up* so people can get the most from the design, as well don't shy a way from adding your input, if you find/have a cooler idea.

if the "plastic sheet" was suspended by a string you could probably call it a 'mobile' ... or drop little waterproof leds into the test tubes, then you could probably pass it off as a 'chandelier'

im gonna make this but instead of the fishing line, use a bent piece of metal in the shape of the spiral and add in some wire with NeoPixel LEDs in the test tubes.

This looks great. I'm off to make one with hypodermic needles.

You could've just added LEDs and a nice controlling circuit - people would love the fuck out of it.
This thing seems a bit rushed and half assed - make a second part where you add lights and you'll have a piece of content that ppl will like.

Not to be a jerk but...
Chandelier

a decorative hanging LIGHT with branches for several light bulbs or candles.

A chandelier /ˌʃæn.dəlˈɪər/ is a decorative ceiling-mounted light fixture.
this is a hanging art project not a chandelier and it seems half assed

I hope no one uses glass test tubes for this. I feel the ceiling attachment could be better, the plastic sheet with screws is pretty ugly.

Isn't the purpose of a chandelier to provide lighting?

edit: Whoops, looks like everyone else had the same question. This thing kinda looks like it should be hanging above a baby's crib.

Turned out nice but mixing the colors was a pain in the ass

hot glue + plastic surface + weight = drop

Fun but bacteria will form rather quickly which will require changing which requires work and water. I live in California, so this just seems like a huge waste to me.

Do you know where I can order caps for the test tubes?

Definitely a lower quality project.  It's not a chandelier if it doesn't emit light.
