Custom Model Library in Enscape 2 9 for Rhino

In this tutorial, we're going to take a look at some of the latest updates and newest features for Enscape 2.9 for Rhino. Some of the newest features include Custom Asset Library, video textures, displacement maps and new fitness assets. Today, we’re going to cover how to create your own custom model libraries in Enscape based on any external 3D model you can find online.

In the extended version of this tutorial which is available on our Patreon page, I'm going to show you how to use video textures in Enscape which is another new feature in version 2.9 and on top of that you will learn how to use Grasshopper to randomly scatter and modify Enscape Assets.

I'm really struggling with matching the scale and orientation of the model and the placeholder file. It seems that it only recognises files imported geometry in metres so first of all you need to format all your imported assets in metres or the placeholder file will be huge. The place holder file weirdly doesn't follow the Enscape scaling settings so while you scale the asset down to the correct scale the placeholder will be HUGE if its formatted in mm's. This can be circumvented by scaling the imported file to metres however the orientation of the asset and the placeholder never seem to match for me. Same thing again. You can change the orientation of the asset but not the placeholder, so the asset may be placed correctly in the Enscape interface but the placeholder (as visible in the rhino interface) will not be oriented correctly. It looks awful and is a real headache. The only solution is to position the obj or fbx so that the placeholder displays upright which means it lies on the y axis and rotated in the file which is very undesirable.
