I was always shown to do a throw on D as dropping to low G from whatever note you’re on, then essentially playing a D gracenote, then open up C then D, as if running up to D....its flows more naturally (more of a ‘throw’ than a doubling/strike movement) but that’s some 20+ years I’ve been playing it like that so I’m kinda stuck in that movement 😂
