Can you believe I'm listening this most melodious song for last 50 years. I have turned out to be worn out because of age factor. But not this song sung by greatest singer Hemant Kumar and music by music wizard S.D. Burman.

Really this song is immortal!

I lost my father when I was 12, almost 18 years ago, and this was his favorite song. We used to both hear this with the lights out, the moonlight falling into the room through the window. It was a magical moment and he made me appreciate each and every note . This song is invaluable to me.

Such a hauntingly, beautiful song.
I was 8 years old when I first heard it. I sat glued to the Bush radio belonging to my uncle, and listened to it's magical melody.

Though I did not understand the lyrics of the song , all that mattered to me was the sweetness of it's notes, which held me spell bound.
Now I am 77 and this song still has the same appeal. Timeless!

What a powerful lyrics...!!!!
Perfect composition of words...!
Each line is dynamite..!
Smooth background scores...!
What an aggrieved voice....!!
Unstoppable expression of the siren...!!!
Midnight, guitar, beach, breeze, coconut trees and shadows...!!!
Perfect picturization.
All the elements of movie making at its best.
What more one can ask?Ultimate Solace.

Hemant Kumar and SDBurman, the greatest pairing ever. It feels like the singer knows, what the music wants.

I had heard this song over 60 years ago, at Kolkata, as I was entering my school-life; and started liking it through the school days. Now, over 50+ years later on, I still love to listen to it at least two times in one go!! Thanks a lot!!!

In those days the voice of the singer(s) exceeded the music.. as the voice(s) were instrumental into themselves..today awaaz kam aur music loud..how beautiful Hemant da sung that song..its a Valentine's D song..leheron ke honton pe..wow..what a lyricist! sooo romantic

Late SDB dada, a royal from Tripura and a Bengali by birth, composed the guitar notes that is typical Goan. Specially between 0 to 10 seconds. This takes you straight to the beaches, the palm trees and the moon. This is pure genius. Shot at Malwan near Goa by the legendary late Guru Dutt.

the tune is refreshing...its really hard to find someone from my age-group who apprecialte such classic old songs...(im just 19) u may even hear my generation people say "hindi gaane kon sunta h? i love chainsmokers or one direction" i mean i love english songs as well and following a western lifestyle doesn't necceassarily mean that u forget ur roots and an art is an art, and one who can appreciate art is an artist himself/herself ... many songs now a days are all about materialism (gaadi, ladki, daaru) and then u want people to change their mentality.. such double standards!!! im a burman sir, hemant kumar and dev anand fan btw

So beautifully penned by Sahir Lidhiyanvi Sahab, great tune and music arrangement by SD Burman Sahab, and what a soothing voice of Hemant Da. Equally beautifully picturized and expressed by Dev Anand Sahab and Geeta Bali Ji. There could be no better than a piece of visual art than this.

S. D. Burman uses raag KAAFI in this brilliant composition. Superb use of guitar in the orchestration. Hemant Kumar's a bit hauntingly sonorous voice provides a quintessential playback to Dev Anand. 😊A wonderful song indeed.

Ha, ha ha ha ha ha, ha ha
Yeh raat yeh chaandni phir kahaan, sun jaa dil ki daastaan -2
Hm hm hm, hm hm hm
Hey pedo ki shaakhon pe
Pedo ki shaakhon pe soyi soyi chaandni, pedo ki shaakhon pe
Tere khayaalon mein khoyi khoyi chaandni
Aur thodi der mein thak ke laut jaayegi
Raat yeh bahar ki phir kabhi na aayegi
Do ek pal aur hai yeh samaa, sun ja dil ki daastaan
Hm hm hm, hm hm hm
Hey lehron ke hontho pe
Lehron ke hontho pe dheema dheema raag hai, lehron ke hontho pe
Bheegi hawaaon mein thandi thandhi aag hai
Is haseen aag mein tu bhi jalke dekhle
Zindagi ke geet ki dhun badal ke dekhle
Khulne de ab dhadkano ki zubaan, sun ja dil ki daastaan
Hey jaati bahaare hain
Jaati bahaare hain uthti jawaaniyan, jaati bahaare hain
Taaron ke chaaon mein pehle kahaaniyaan
(Ek baar chal diye gar tujhe pukaarke Lautkar na aayenge qaafilen bahaar ke) -2
Aaja abhi zindagi hai jawaan, sun ja dil ki daastaan
Yeh raat yeh chaandni phir kahaan, sun jaa dil ki daastaan Daastaan, daastaan

For those who want to murmur this song along with the video but don't know the lyrics....!!😊😊

This high pitch song never seems shrill, such is the soothing melody in the singer's voice. The magical charm of the rendition kept the auditorium in pin drop silence. That's Hemant Kumar's golden voice.
