Today, I drive my friend @Number27 's Bentley Continental GT - which he picked up for £18,000. We all know these are cheap cars - but I'm asking if it's still worth it, or if they're just too much hassle.

I think its a rite of passage for every car Youtuber to have their life ruined by a Bentley Continental.

So I took this route (cheap exotic) but went with the Gran Turismo. So far it’s been a really good experience. A lot of fun to drive, have had no serious issues and frankly just puts a smile on my face every time I reach for the keys

Guy round the corner has one of these he got for £9k. The Depreciation is INSANE... but so far hes had nothing go wrong. Seems like an absolute bargain.

I owned a 2005 in that great Cypress Green launch colour for a year and a half. It cost me a ridiculous £20k to run, or almost £4 per mile. I still miss it and I want another

The Continental GT is one of the great Bentleys.
Whilst the maintenance bill will scare most people off, the pleasure of driving a GT easily outweighs the running cost and it will always put a smile on your face! ☺

Had a few of these now. Electrical issues are a nightmare. Every time you get a new dash light come up it's a total pain to sort out. Rear lights go and cost 2k+ each to replace. I ran mine using secondhand parts, but you could never relax owning it. Just get rich and buy a new one.

Great content Jay.
We have a facelifted Flying Spur in the same colour (Dark Nlue Somerhingorother) but Magnolia leather.
Always an event to drive even though it's mainly for trailing the Grandkids around...the space in the back makes child seats easy and no kicking of the drivers seat from the little darlings.
Had it a few months and it's my favourite car to drive. Tried it as a daily for a week and regal on country roads but the mpg was just a little too fruity to keep as such.
Only had to replace a battery, which manifested as a nuber of electrical gremlins...all of which vanished when the new one was put in.
The boot motor was broken when we got it and the £2k quote means we are happy to just lift it manually.
For £18k it's great fun and looks the part on the grass at the Races.
Great experience so far but my fingers are always crossed.

On my 2nd Bentley GT. First one was a 2004 and a money pit . Current 2008 GT speed. Fantastic car and no problems besides regular servicing . I give this guy his due very fair review

I had one when I was 25 years old. It's was in much better shape than this one tbh. They are beautiful vehicles. But theres a lot of bad ones out. All about the cars history with these. Low owners and full Bentley history is a must. I buy cars like this every 6 months or so. Sell them for the purchase price and move on. I add £300 per month to my available money to purchase new vehicles. Just hope I don't get a lemon. It's been nearly 10 years now, and it's been great. Currently got a 2008 f430. The only real cost is the service before I sell them on! Best way to drive amazing cars as a normal person, imo.

I think that some local businesses.need to start putting up advertising hoardings up on that S bend as you Jack and Harry use it all the time 😀

The vacuum pipe issue was present on 2007 cars. I know as I had a 2007. It cost £2300 to fix at a bentley main dealer. The first quote was £3990, only when I said I would take it to a specialist did they reduce the price. It’s not £5k as said in the video. Servicing at a main dealer in 2023 for an over 4 year old car is £700 for cheap service and £1100 for the main service. And there are plenty of very good specialists now who are generally a little cheaper but in my experience offer more of a detailed approach than the main dealer. So while more expensive than the average car to service it’s similar to others of the same class. I have a mark 2 GTC now and it is a better all round car, tempted by mark 3, but it’s lost some of the Bentley look and feel. Progress?

My dad bought a 2008 (I think?) Speed Coupe for about 35 grand a few years ago - he’s sold it recently for 6-7 grand loss but he wanted to own one as a bucket list thing

It’s a pretty special car - I wasn’t THAT into them but having been in one, I think it has to go on my bucket list at some point !

You can’t really get any other car with that interior, presence and authenticity for this kind of dosh

HAHA! Love the 'Beard Meets Food' callout! Are we going to see a crossover, maybe have Jay do an eating challenge and Beard drive a luxury car?

Had a mk1 fir 3 years now, WOW, what a stunning car, headturner was a phrase devised especially for the GT, it's tempest great, all the chrome is black wrapped, massive 21 inch, black 6 spokes, hotspur red and black interior, only done 35k, still smells new, had a service done at a specialist, £800 THAT'S IT!!!, 5 and half hours to Mousehole from Derbyshire, got out feeling great, yeah it only gave me 19.8 mpg, but EVERY MILE WAS A SMILE.
Spend a little more to get the right one or it'll kill you.
Shall be getting a newer one on time as they are beyond great.

I have been driving my 2007 GTC in dark saphire and magnolia leather interior for many years and more than 100.000 mls all over Europe and I have never had any serious issues so far. It gets its annual inspection at the local Bentley dealer and that's it. Of course this costs between 3k and 5k, depending on wear and tear if you want to keep it in an excellent condition, but besides that I have never had to spend a lot on it. Its a great car and a lot of fun to drive, even at high speed with almost 200 mph on the German Autobahn.
Mine has a chip tuning and comes with 635 HP and an enormous torque of more than 700 Nm. I would not recommend to buy a coupe for less than 35k € or a convertible for less than 60k because it definitely pays off to buy one in almost immaculate condition, if you can manage to get such a rare example.

Could have bought one for 30k a few years back.
18 is astounding!

Here in the states you can routinely pick up a Continental GT for around $20, 000, but the financial ruin is overstated. Its a big Volkswagen, and can be serviced at any Volkswagen dealership. My sister bought a used one and it hasn't had a single problem in 5 years.

Great summary James of a very good car. Brilliantly effortless on the motorway and straight smooth A roads on long journeys. I've had mine for about 2 and a half years. I took it to my local Bentley main dealer for it's first service and then to an independent specialist after that - the latter being both better and cheaper. Maintenance has been about £1.5-£2k per year. It's 100% better to go for one that's been looked after all it's life rather than a cheap one that you think you can bring back up to good condition. Also, if ever there was a car that needs to be used regularly it's this one - even letting it sit for a couple of weeks can start to throw up spurious electrical warnings. I've put mine up for sale now, but only because my kids are too big for the back seats.
