I Started to Wonder If God Even Cared | Hope Works

Moroni saw the drunkenness and beating and chaos of a dysfunctional family and went to the boxing gym to release his anger. A trainer, noticing how often he was pummeled, told him that the “fight comes from within.”

That counsel came to mind years later as he sat alone, abandoned and full of doubts in his prison cell. Facing a certain 15-year prison sentence, he prayed in his sanctuary of concrete and metal bars. He remembered a dream from years earlier when he saw the Savior on the beach come to him, lift him up, and say, “I remember you, and I’m with you.”

He recommitted his life to goodness. He prayed and served others. He attended Church services and kept his faith and hope bright. To his surprise, he did not face the prison sentence but was released into drug court where he met his future wife, who was also recovering from an addiction.

For the last four years, they’ve served as addiction recovery missionaries for the Church.

“I never thought I’d be here,” he said. “Christ keeps me afloat in the storms of my life. For those who struggle, know that Jesus is in the ring with you.”

I am grateful to have the savior In my life, I was homeless for 10 years living on the streets couch-surfed finally living in a van, while having to watch my back yet I kept praying, going to church, feeling the spirit, and knowing our savior is with me and helped me with a new life.

I left the church right out of high school. I just found Jesus again after a lot of years without Him. I've done it both ways, with and without Him and all I know is the dark is a lot darker without Him.

In overcoming the "why me?" "victim" attitude, stacking it as part of the wins under your belt, you have indeed kept hope alive. Well done and may more miracles attend your prayers.

I used to run those classes you took in drug court...I worked mental health court which is basically the same thing. Good for you! This is such a great testimony! I know where you're coming from for sure.

This brother reminds me that a saint IS a sinner who keeps trying. Even while having joined the church, he still eventually fell into very bad addictions and despair once again. I can relate and hate to say I have felt somewhat worse.. The church isn't the church without the ever enduring strong hearts and continuing, dedicated faith of its loyal members.. Even ones that can still screw up like everyone else. Just as me and this inspirational brother have. I WILL continue to hold to the rod. I know personally myself, I've slipped off the path many many times. I've sunken or fallen into many dark, familiar intoxicating mists in my life that keep returning to haunt me.... Lds or not, DON'T let yourselves be so discouraged brethren. Never give in to that it's too late or point of no return bullcrap. We ALL can change..God speed 🙏🏼💛

Never quitting is an absolute necessity to come out with the win. Even then, we cannot do it ourselves, we must have God on our side, and we need to ask.

I’m so great full to Jesus Christ, for His love and care for ALL of God’s children, including you and me. Keep on the narrow, covenant path my brother! God is ALWAYS there for you

I was so poor that I begged on the streets and Jesus was always there but I couldn't see him, so bogged down in depression that it took me yrs to finally find my God. I'm blessed, today I have finally found my father, my Lord God. Jesus Christ.

I can't relate to his story in any way as I've never had experiences like his but I so needed to hear him and Him today. I am so grateful for Saints who are willing to share their stories because it can touch someone in a way that prompts them to remain hopeful and to make necessary changes. Thank you Moroni and thank you Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
