Professor Frederick Kaufman from the City University of New York's Graduate School of Journalism discusses the major research projects currently underway to develop actual metrics to define what sustainable food is.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event:

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I liked how he closed "we can't sell [the sustainability metric] short". I agree with this but disagree with his talk about the absurdity of the current process, his disillusionment with Sustainability Consortium's attempts at indexing. First off he criticized the process without discussing how other groups have developed metrics in the past.
Think of the WWF and the Global Footprint Network and the arguments and assumptions needed to create that metric. GHG Protocol product level standard!
