Have those people never seen a tent before? Or met a kid?! They usually love things like this. There are all sorts of canopies and overhangs and tent tops designed to go over children’s beds.

Captions did it wrong, though a lightsaber bed would be cool. 😊

If there’s a fire in your house, and Griffin is in bed… he’s still going to be in the bed. When you’ve got only a few minutes to evacuate, you can go straight in, and grab him or the bed with him in it, depending on which is faster, and remove him quickly from the room.

If you have to check the bed, the closet, two other rooms before you find Griffin, your chances of any of you escaping has drastically decreased.

A fire would be new and scary and might scare him into hiding... having him in a secure location will ensure a safer and fast escape for everyone.

As a pedi nurse I wish more people understood the measures you gave to take sometimes

As a kid who literally slept in a wardrobe box of her own volition when she had a whole queen sized bed upon moving into her new house as a 4th grader, kids love little confined spaces and tents and boxes. If I had this as a kid at that age I would be ecstatic (outside of safety reasons or needs). Even these days in my dorm room I’ll sometimes shove blankets underneath the bunk above me to make my bed feel a bit more like a little cave! Lol

If more people approached things they don’t know with genuine curiosity rather than judgement the world would be a better place.

That bed would have saved me and my husband so much trauma that we went through before we got our son diagnosed, he climbed out the window (twice) the first time was during nap time and the cops knocked on our door and asked us if we were missing a toddler and we responded that our kids were taking a nap, but we did go and check because we knew our son was always trying to figure out how to get outside. We realized it was him and the officers asked us how this happened and we realized he had unlocked and climbed out the window then climbed over our 3.5 foot tall fence and lost his shirt on the top of the fence and wiggled out of it(he could have totally strangled himself on the fence and we wouldn't even have known) he was at that point three, almost four at the time when he made his first escape, after that we installed safety latches on all the windows and his second escape he broke his window with his firetruck toy (we live in an older house and the house has only single paned windows so they are quite easy to break). So after he broke the window he climbed outside and ran across the street and our doorbell camera caught him trying to get into our neighbors car but it was locked so he went to his door and knocked thankfully we are good friends with our neighbor James who is like a grandpa and he knows our son has special needs so he carried him back home, I was in the kitchen at the time Making dinner and I had asked my older children to keep an eye out for him and they got distracted by video games and none of us heard him break the window, people always ask us how we could possibly let our child escape or get out of the house but the truth is when you have a special needs child and three other children it's not possible to keep a constant eye on them, it can get overwhelming and super stressful especially when your trying to care for all of your children and make them a meal and your child escapes. Most people don't even realize the lengthy process of child proofing the entire house and removing knobs from your stove and bathroom and adding a lock to keep your child locked in his room at night so he doesn't unlock the door in the middle of the night and wander off, our son also has no idea or concern about his own safety he just doesn't have any comprehensive understanding or knowledge of his surroundings which makes things extra scary, but my point is we as parents didn't understand our sons condition either and didn't understand that he didn't understand and we had to wait to get him diagnosed and that waiting list to get that evaluation took a year but we were so happy and sad to get that diagnosis but it has helped us to manage his condition so much better and to keep him safe, even from himself. I didn't even know this bed existed until just watching this video, I think if you have gotten negative comments about his safety bed then those comments are coming from people who have absolutely no understanding of what it takes to raise a special needs child. We as parents have to make the best decision to keep our littleones safe regardless of other people being judgemental, it's not their child that is at constant risk of being injured or even death (mostly because special needs children lack the knowledge to keep themselves safe). You owe no one an explanation of what you do as a parent to keep your child safe. ❤

Why are safety beds so important? BECAUSE THEY KEEP KIDDOS SAFE. So glad they exist for kiddos like Griffin❤

I love how much you do for your kids. I'm a teacher and it's so encouraging to see a parent doing all the things to help their children. I don't see it often...

I absolutely get it! My 7 year old is in a medical net bed! It keeps her safe and it's super easy to clean when needed. She has autism, epilepsy, global delay and A LOT of trauma from the first few years of her life before she came to us!

Safety first mom's!

I have a son who is nearly 40. He has disabilities and behaviors similar to Griffin.
I so wish there had been a bed like this when he was growing up!

It looks like a tent. I would've loved it when I was a kid. You're doing the right thing.

I worked in a special needs camp and there were a bunch of kids who slept in "cages" it kept them safe😊

In the case of a fire this bed also ensures that you will be able to find them. A lot of kids tend to hide making them less likely to be located. Also, this bed ensures they aren't the reason for the fire.

These beds are so important, but because of the cost and the shame of people thinking that they are cruel a lot of parents don't get them when they really should. Good job for taking the steps necessary to keep your kiddos safe and for educating others on the importance of these beds.

Soon people will be saying this about putting babies in cradles. Smh. You go, queen, keep your family safe and healthy and don’t listen to these people.

I had a childhood epilepsy disorder and things like this would’ve helped me tremendously.

Sincerely, someone who has fallen out of a lot of bed during seizures and risked suffocating, and also someone who had rug burn on their face CONSTANTLY

The fact that you have to answer questions like this so regularly, tells me while we have come so far in understanding and educating in the areas of physical and mental disabilities, delays, illness, etc, we still have a long ways to go.
Thanks for being so willing to share your family and to be willing to hwlp educate. ❤

I wish this bed had been around when my son was young. We really needed it. It’s not a punishment or cruel, it’s the best thing when your kids it.

Idk why people are hating? Like if it works for them great! You don't have to do what they're doing. It seems to keep their family functioning and that's all that matters. Functioning and safety which this seems to provide. For this family.

Just because you wouldn't do it doesn't mean they can't. I'd love to hear other opinions tho
