In This video we look at one of the WORST Dodge models to buy. A 2009 Dodge Caliber with a 2.0L engine.

This car is often found for sale for a much lower price than those Japanese counterparts of the same year and style. And that is for a good reason.

If you're ever in the market to buy one, please skip this one especially if you live in the rust belt with salt use in the streets in the winter. They really rust very badly.

As a Chrysler tech. These do have oil leak issues, valve covers, timing cover, and oil pans. Also may have some surging feeling when spark plugs are getting worn. Feels like if trans is surging but this is caused by worm spark plugs. Recommend to change every 30k.
This is was colobration work between hyuidai, chrysler, and mitsubishi. Hyundai also used a 2.4 varient of this engine too.

That cover that covers the battery is a air intake duct. If it's removed and not put back you may get induction noise, it has happened to me.

The cvt is a Jatco design. Same manufacturer that makes nissan cvt. These transmission are very delicate. What most people fail to do is do trans service by the maintenance schedule of 60k. The oil this cvt uses degrades fast after 50k which causes trans oil to foam up and cause trans to overheat. I have seen some cvt last long time but only because customer do there trans service on time.
Suspension is not the greatest, and may also have some electrical issues like throttle bodies going bad and tipm module going bad.
It's also true chyrsler does not make reliable small cars. There trucks, subs, and large size sedans are better.
I have a 2003 ram 5.7 with 360, 000 miles. Still has original trans, engine was replaced at 305000 due to oil consumption and it broke a valve spring. So with maintenance most cars can be reliable.

I owned a 2010 jeep patriot. Its basically a dodge caliber underneath. Seeing that caliber engine bay brings back memories. It broke down a lot after 5 years of ownership. All the struts were replaced. Wheel bearings, control arms also replaced. Alternator replaced twice. I got it to more than 100k miles. I traded it in for a toyota last year after it won't crank or start. It had to be towed to the mechanic. The mechanic said it's related to the ecu. I spent a lot of money getting it fixed hoping each time would be the last but some times you should know when to move on.

Hello from Europe - Greece. I bought the dodge caliber 1.8 petrol manual transm;ition brand new back in 2008 and it still runs like new . It has 150.000 km and the only fail was a flywheel sensor that cost about 20 euros that took 5 minutes for the car service to fix. No leaks, no breaks, no stalling, no bad batteries, NO rust . Good suspension . The 150 horse power is more than enough, considering the very low fuel consumption (around 7, 5 liters per 100 km) . I watched the video carefully and i could not see any major fails for that old car (man you comment the battery cover as useless and you didn't see that its actualy an air-scoop for the airfilter obx intake) . I intend to keep it for meny more years, as long it last in the same todays good working condition. Stay up with the manuals servicing program and everything will be ok. Anyway i sudjest to anybody that likes this model, to try and check it for themselfes, with a mechanic that they trust. Cheers

I'm convinced that "Dodge" is not a car brand name, but a warning to potential car buyers.

I bought a 2006 dodge charger RT brand new and am still driving it. It runs like a champ and hasn’t really given me problems. The only thing I replaced that was somewhat expensive was the radiator, cooling fans, and alternator. When I first got it everyone made fun of me because it’s a “dodge” so they are surprised I’m still driving and it.

I owned an '07 Caliber with manual transmission for 12 years, and it was the most reliable, trouble-free car I've ever had. Never needed anything but regular wear-and-tear maintenance.

AMD, at least this car’s battery is not hidden in the driver’s side wheel well like older Dodge Stratus and Chrysler Sebring. I remember working on my father’s old Sebring’s battery. I made sure to replace it with a sealed type. When I learned about the 2.7 L V6 engine it had, I talked him into getting rid of it and he got a 2007 RAV4.

I agree with you AMD those chryslers/Dodge/ jeeps were horrible. I owned a chrysler sebring back in the 2000's and I had leaking problems, head gaskets problem, tranmission and got rid of it for a 2006 Lexus IS350 and never looked back. Still have the car and running strong with no problems. My dad had problems with is brand new tahoe when he bought it back in late 2000's so I'm not too fond on American Cars anymore.. BUY A TOYOTA OR LEXUS!! 😁

Good stuff. Keep them coming. My last Chrysler product was a 96 Caravan. I sold it when the transmission started acting up at 19, 000 miles.

My new favorite word from AMD. Chryslerness. 😂Sometimes there's no other way to describe it.

So true. The quality of those budget Dodge Chrysler cars fom that era was abysmal. That one is an exception, not the rule. Good advice as always, AMD! Don't buy one!!!

I have a 2008 Dodge Caliber & I’ve spent so much $$$ on it since I’ve had it. Motor & trans is still good. It’s just one thing after another tho. When I replace one thing I there’s something else 😂 Got 180, 000+ miles on it. Got a few things to replace but besides that still running & driving today…

I'm ashamed to admit when I was younger I bought a brand new Jeep Compass in late 2006. Brand new model, one of the first 50 sold in Canada. Same powertrain etc. I did have quite a few stupid problems with that one. Brake squeals repeatedly, rattles, broken hatch part, etc. I think I only had it for about 3 years tho. I would NOT recommend any of these cars especially if they are out of warranty LOL

These things were like $9, 200 new. I've been driving one every day now for 2+ years 77 miles a day back and forth to work. It was given to me by my brother. All you have to do is take care of it.

I just found this channel and love it. Ahmed calling out low quality cars is pretty funny.

I think the Journey is a very similar piece of junk! Basically any Dodge is garbage pretty much. I had 2 Rams purchased new about 4 years apart. Both had very similar electrical problems along with many other annoyances. I now own a Tacoma with 200, 000km that’s in better condition than the new Rams I owned! Never again will I own a Chrysler product!
