I am a trained Martial Artist. I always hear people now of days disrespecting Karate... because they claim that "traditional Karate" is simply not effective. The Dojo I got my Brown Belt from trained us like this (it's funny because they also taught Boxing and Muay Thai). I have seen men that are/were Black Belts that fought with the Karate skill as this man in your video. Your video proves that Karate is very deadly. "It is not the airplane/car alone because the pilot is responsible for 50% of the performance". You video proves that. Because at the upper levels of Martial Arts a person's mentality and conditioning becomes expert-they go hand and hand. Thanks for your time.

This was Andy Hug vs Changphuak Kiatsongrit. Andy fights at 215lbs. Changphuak fights 155lbs. The Japanese have a long history of mismatching Karate v. Muay Thai fights to make Karate look good. K1 also doesnt allow elbows or "passive clinching."

This doesn’t really prove anything because they aren’t allowing the muay thai fighter to use his clinch, elbows, and knees. In this fight they actually took away all of those weapons from the Muay thai fighter and just allowed kicks and grabs. If it was full contact karate vs a Muay thai fighter where they are allowed to use all of their weapons it would be a whole different fight. If they put someone like Buakaw up against this guy it would have lasted all of 30 seconds.

To all the Karate haters and Muay Thai keyboard warriors out there, this fight was under Kyokushin tournament rules, different to what is called "Shinken Shobu" which is the kickboxing side of Kyokushin Karate, allowing head-punches with gloves, clinchwork, takedowns and throws.

He was trained by a highly skilled and respected coach who brought 3 of his karate guys to fight 3 Muay Thai guys and they won 2-3 this was when karate was actually respectable and not watered down like these days

I must confess one thing, this karate fighter really knows how to shorten distances and move away differently from the Muay Thai fighter, who I will not judge anymore, I think the Muay Thai fighter could at least try to create distance from the fighter, but it turns out he didn't do that, so he became an easy victim for the karate fighter. For those who call karate weak, karate has good techniques and Muay Thai too, not depend on the martial art, but on the fighter if he knows how to use it correctly.

I think for striking, cross training in boxing, muay thai and karate is a great idea.For grappling, cross training in catch wrestling and bjj is great.
