Dr. Powell received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from Virginia Union University and the Doctor of Medicine Degree from Cornell University Medical College where he also trained in clinical pharmacology.
Dr. Powell has authored many publications on basic and clinical research and has conducted many lectures and scientific presentations including several on clinical trials in people of color. Recipient of its Lifetime Honorary Membership Award of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators, (APPI)

African American Health Matters is the only Mobile Health Text Message Service in the U.S. designed to improve minority health, disease and clinical trials information. For several years the "African American Health Matters" Radio Broadcast aired online. The AAHM patient education broadcast featured physicians and disease orgnization executives from around the country, disucssing nearly two dozen diseases that affect African Americans today.
