Protip: Jinhao has a ton of surprisingly fantastic knockoffs of much more expensive pens. Get a 10$ Jinhao version of the pen you want and it'll give you a good idea of what to expect. They even have knockoff Safaris.
Don't jump into 20$-30$ pens right out the gate. Get a cheap piece of crap you don't mind ruining as you learn.
I think we, as fountain pen enthusiasts, forget that 30$ for a pen is outrageous to most humans.

Another option that’s cheaper is the Muji Aluminum Fountain Pen. Sells for $15-18 depending on Amazon or eBay but is a perfect starter.

Hongdian makes a surprisingly nice set of pens for great prices. I would also recommend the Parker Jotter. Smooth, inexpensive, and surprisingly high quality.

Another one: Parker jotter Fountain pen, 17, 59-35 usd depending on colors or special edition (the 17 usd price is mostly a sale price but you can find them pretty often at that price

Jinhao 159. My favorite pen, even over my $200+ pens. And it only cost like $9 with shipping. I like it better than the 159x
