This tool is ideal for the ordinary diyer who does bits and pieces now and again and has'nt the time, skill or inclination to go sharpening chisels or plane blades.Looking at the demo, it only took a short time and the results were evident for everyone to see.Excellent quality video as usual and looking forward to the next episode of Ultimate Handyman.

I use a fast track myself and have done for several years, it works brilliantly and is well made. I always strop off on the leather tool roll after sharpening for an even better edge.

Back in the early 60's, when I did my C&J apprenticeship, you had to buy an oilstone and learn how to do it unaided but times move on, This sharpener looks promising.l didn't find the Stanley sharpening guide that useful, I found doing it by hand easier in the long run.
Thanks for the video.

Always good to see a post from UH. I hardly get time to sleep what with work and family so I take.my hat off to the you tubers out there who use their free time to help others by posting informative videos. Bravo.

I'll be interested to hear your long term thoughts on this. Personally I a dubious of edge retention using this method as the scratch pattern is parallel to the blade which to me would suggest a weak wire edge that is liable to break off as soon as it is used. Traditional sharpening methods leave scratches perpendicular which to me would seem to be stronger and have the advantage of a little "tooth" to it.

I have have a lot of the Trend diamond range and they are very good quality. The large diamond hand file is also a great bit of kit as well as the credit card version. 😄

I've always used a stone for sharpening, but I'm very open minded so I may purchase and try this out. Also I bought a new drill from screw fix yesterday, I've already got an 18v makita and I needed a small but powerfull drill. The one I got is a bosch 10.8v LI combi drill £85, I think so far it's brilliant, light enough to use and has a 10mm chuck, LED light, led battery level indicator, carry bag, 1 battery and charger, I mainly want to ask you what are your thought on the 'Bosch professional' range?

was waiting to the end to see you test the sharpness by shaving your arm hair with it, thats when you know its super sharp! Have you tested it out on a plane iron?

Video was obviously edited as it would make pretty dull viewing to watch the entire sharpening process. Interested to know how long it actually took though... Tempted to get one of these but the main thing putting me off is the stroke doesn't look long enough for doing planer blades.

You know, the other day I was so embarrassed. I thought I'd broken some large hedge pruners because the washer looked as though it had snapped. My Mum's sister & brother in law are fortunate to have training from down the family chain. My Dad couldn't even replace the fuse in a plug. So I felt like a complete fuckwit when they pointed out it was a "spring washer" & I had not broken them. I subscribed to you because I want to learn as much as possible & avoid disappointing my Mum constantly. Thank you for these videos. They are a great help.

Finally back to a intro that doesn't take a year to watch.

Your obviously not a salesman chez as you didn't do a demo of before or after! 😉 I've just got a cheap whetstone at the moment and can be hit or miss so this could be a good investment. Good review as always 👍

Cleaning them up is easy as well buy a pack of the cheap erasers off eBay ( other on line sellers are available) and just rub the diamond plates with one. You don't need to pay ten times as much by buying the Trend one.

People are saying you can't flatten the back of the chisel but you can using the optional stone that fits on the flat front section.

Hi UH, is there any way or place to remove the burr from the flat side after sharpening? N.

The hand held diamond file will. The credit card one will do your router bits and between them you can sharpen almost anything. 😄

Great find! Simple design and human powered lol

Almost bought one of these then thought how poor value for money it is compared to a water/oil stone setup. Plus you cannot flatten the back side of the plane. And its only used for that one operation at two angles.
