Oreo phases of the Moon

This would be a better demonstration for how an eclipse appears. The problem is you can't replicate either of the quarter phases accurately (need a straight line).
Also, one of the biggest misconceptions is that the earth's shadow causes moon phases, and I fear that this helps support this.

you're supposed to use a toothpick to carve off the parts of the moon. This looks very wrong and more like the stages of an eclipse. the half moons should be half going straight down, and the gibbous should be rounded.
