Magnificat (1st Movement) - NICHOLAS WHITE

The first movement of Nicholas White's large scale setting of the Magnificat for soprano soloist, choir, organ, brass and percussion. Written in 1997, and premiered at Washington National Cathedral, this performance features Amanda Balestrieri (soprano), Jeff Howard (organist),the Chancel Choir of First United Methodist Church, Lubbock, Texas (Gordon McMillan, Minister of Music), FUMC Brass & Percussion, and Nicholas White, conductor.

Listening to this exciting composition 15 years after the actual concert, it is still really wonderful to hear. The choir, organ, brass and soloist all sound terrific. It was a major thrill to have the composer conducting the concerts (both in D.C. and in Lubbock) and a great honor to be able to premiere the work at Washington National Cathedral.
