Finally I was able to do pop up. It was because I was not using my torso to bring my knees up. Thanks man! Great tutorial keep them coming!

Thank you for the good work! I have realized that I need to build up more upper body and core strength after self learning surfing for 40 days.

got to say this is the best tutorial on youtube for popups, none of that plant the back foot first crap. great tips mate, thanks

Finally someone who pops up on the floor without the foot on the floor...so many unrealistic tutorials out there creating bad habits, the movement feels totally different. When I started to pop up on the floor like that I was thinking ''how the hell people can do that ?'' but training training training is the only answer ! Quick one though, try to land your blackfoot flat, if you land on your toe it s going to be trouble in the water. cheers !

This is the best pop up video on YouTube. He is so right using your toes maybe easier for the beginner, but learning to pop from knees is crucial. Especially when you come off the longboard

In Bali you're never more than 1 metre from a gecko.

Solid pop up explanation, appreciated.

I started doing modified pop up burpees to strengthen my upper body, timing and foot placement. Started on the ground, moved to a 23" wide soft top board and then onto the soft top board with 2 15" innertubes underneath to dial in balance. It's all about the core and how you control it. Notice how this instructor has a very muscular upper body, you don't have to be that big but upper body strength and core control is key. Practicing pop ups on dry land is so important there just aren't enough waves to get a lot of practice in the lineup.

Thanks so much for the video and tips! I’ve really been strengthening my core and now I’m not having any problems with scraping my knees and the full motion is getting easier

Great pop up tutorial and excellent technique and cues, but for the record, you are indeed putting your back foot down before front foot - just much faster so it's almost imperceivable. I think it's okay to condition your technique by starting with bringing trailing knee up first to get the feel of the motion and then just do it faster and faster.

Good Work - clear concise and Well done ! One of the best executions of this technique on the net I have seen.

Great and totally functional tutorial. Thanks !!
Based on my personal experience, try to do it on a bed/mattress or use a Knee cap to avoid abrasions.
Also, arching the back a bit more makes it much easier to spring back.

Thanks for making this video. I'm land-locked and my pop ups even using feet sucked as someone who only gets to ride a handful of times a year... now I have knee pop-ups for days! Makes long board pop-ups seem like nothing now... I hope you make more content for your channel!

Awesome best pop up tutorial I've seen. I was really confused why I couldn't pop up on a shorter board after getting used to using my toes on a long board.
