Показать описание
What are the three principles to improve animal welfare in science?
Discover them with the rerun of the Three Rs and Animal Use in Science MOOC! “Replace” animals with other methods, wherever possible, “Reduce” by using fewer animals in research and safety testing, and “Refine” by minimising discomfort in lab animals through better housing, handling and pain relief. The MOOC will take educators through these principles as well as many examples on how to address them in the classroom. Participants will discover new ways to develop their students' critical thinking and debating skills, develop their data literacy, and enhance their understanding of scientific ethics.
With this MOOC, teachers learn about the different roles animals have in science, and where and how animals are being replaced by alternatives, taking in consideration the evolution of animal testing in history and its views thereof in science. Furthermore, teachers have the unique opportunity to include elements from other disciplines and introduce their students to critical thinking activities but also a wide variety of topics ranging from sustainability to ethics, philosophy and modern scientific practices. Teachers and students are called to question what we know and accept about scientific research so far, and visualize how the Three Rs can be applied and by whom.
