I'm 45 and I built my first PC in 1992, I was 14, it was an Intel 486 DX-2 66 based system, I had one of the first 3D Graphics accelerator cards when the 3DFX Voodoo released, I've always loved PC's.

Throughout the last 34 years I have owned every console and every generation of PC hardware, most recently I've owned all of the main flag ship GPU's generally Nvidia, 1080ti, 2080ti, 3090ti, 4090 and now I find myself contemplating the 50 Series... but I think I'm done.

I bought a PS5 Pro on release and since buying it my 4090 system has sat unloved so I'll now be selling it, end of an era but even the acceptance that it's not for me anymore is a relief, the PC community will rally to defend their platform by citing all of the issues I have are non issues but I know how they make me feel and I know the issues I've faced.

PC have always had complications, it has never been the easiest place to play but it always felt worth it, It doesn't anymore.

I won't focus on the individual game optimisation issues but we all know there are issues with PC Ports, I feel this began with Dark Knight and then became very common with the Unreal Engine 4 era, Star Wars Jedi survivor and Hogwarts legacy were both awful on release and not much better now, I don't care if you had no issues, check out digital foundry, issues exist, as I type this I am listening to their latest video about the poor state of the FFVII Rebirth PC Port.

This is my perspective on the comparison, this comes from someone that spends the majority of their working day sat in an office at a desk.

I come home, I flop onto the sofa I pick up my dualsense and press the PS logo, the system, the TV the surround all turn on automatically, and I can quick resume straight into the middle of the boss fight I was mid way through when my partner shouted that dinner was done last night. I just play, I smile when a trophy pops and I enjoy the dual sense haptics and the radio coms coming through the dualsense to tell me I'm not wanted by the galactic empire (Starwars Outlaws), I'm loving the HDR and the ATMOS sound track via my Sony HTA9 system.

Why did I choose the console instead of the PC that is several times more powerful?

With PC I would have needed to sit at my Secret labs Magnus PRO XL desk, it's a wonderful desk but I've been sat at a desk all day, I'd have to boot the PC, turn on the wireless peripherals because I hate cables, except the dualsense that I would have to plug in with a wire connection for it to work with any form of haptics (I know about software like DS4 and simple Bluetooth connection but they don't offer full haptics which I personally enjoy). I wait for windows to finish loading things in, if I'm lucky there are no driver or launcher updates. I then find the launcher that contains the game I want to play and launch that, I then wait while the splash developer screens come up and then I wait for pre shader compilation to take place, I then load the save game from the night before but I have to play from the checkpoint and fight my way back to the boss. I'm getting 160fps but every now and then a frame spite or traversal stutter will cause the game to feel jerky and that for me is worse then a lower yet optimised consistent frame rate.

It just feels like more work. I've had to enter steam launch command lines for certain games to avoid issues, I hate all of the different launchers that want to divide your time. I hate the fact that HDR is still not ideal on Windows 11, I hate the fact that surround is patchy on Windows 11 and you have to buy the Atmos App and even then windows switches back the sound to stereo eventually.

I've spent 34 years playing on the cutting edge of gaming, I've played games with the best textures and graphics, at high if inconsistent frame rates but I've been left thinking does any of that matter, are graphics and frame rate the most important thing for enjoyment, then I think back about my favourite games of recent years, many are little indies (Dave the Diver and Deaths Door) and a PC is pointless for them, I don't care about 240 fps in dave the diver but the haptics on Dualsense were great fun. There is also the fact that its easy to end up doom scrolling on PC or wasting time, where as on console when I sit down to game I just game, I don't problem solve, I don't seek optimisation and spent time back and forth within the options menus, I don't have to wonder if I have enough time to reach a save point, I don't have to figure out why my surround has stopped working again, I don't need to wonder if that new game launching next week is actually going to work properly, on console they just do.

To quote Todd Howard who I think is the embodiment of the PC Crowd, "IT JUST WORKS" come on Todd and the PC community, PC is great but you can never just turn on that new release and think I'm not worried, "IT JUST WORKS", well on console I can, and for me, someone that views gaming as a way to unwind sometimes "IT JUST WORKS" is all I need.

Enjoy your gaming where ever you do it, not an attack on PC, I could have bought a small house with the amount I've spent on PC over the past 34 years, I am not a hater or a fan boy, I just know how they make me feel now. I hope something comes along that changes the game, I'm looking at Steam OS, but until then I'm done with PC. I guess I'll put my PC Master race mug in the bin.

I’m 29, work full time and since having a child (now 2.5 years old) my enjoyment of PC gaming is out the window. I maybe sit down to game once or twice a week for 2-3 hours tops. Anytime I play something on PC and run into performance issues, several updates, crashes, whatever - I just turn it off. For me it’s just not worth the hassle and my attention span is very small these days. If I can’t just sit down and play something for a bit to unwind then I just don’t want to bother. So for me personally console gaming is so much more enjoyable.

I’ve got a handheld pc, Xbox X, oled switch, and a ps5. At this point with the cost of gaming and consoles raising prices, I may just invest in an actual PC and build a great steam library for the next 10 years

I´ve been a PC gamer for two decades, but I got tired of adjusting settings, the frequency of bugs, and the lack of a satisfactory way to play seating on a sofa witha TV. I don´t think PC graphics are much better than what consoles provides. Considering the diminished returns, you need to invest a lot more of money to get a significant upgrade in graphics, which I don´t think compensate the other factors I listed before. Therefore, I think the PC offer a better gaming option as the video suggests. Obviosuly, this is my personal choice, and each person has to decide what works better to them.

For the price console. If money isnt an issue PC

You must be doing something wrong if you have to adjust your settings every time you sit down to play on your PC. Apart from the initial setup, and the occasional update it's as easy as a console

I have always been a console gamer but recently I switched to PC and there is no going back. Having PC gamepass and PS exclusives eventually coming to PC, there is no better time to make the change💪

I’ve been a console guy all my life, but I recently made the switch, and I’m NEVER going back. I can play old games and new games without being locked behind console generations or having to pay subscription services to play online games. And the overall experience is so much more fulfilling with PCs imo. PCs also are so multifunctional in comparison to a gaming console that it makes the choice that much clearer for me. And while yes, you do pay more upfront for a PC, you reap long term benefits from it that will outlast any console generation.

For pure 100% gaming without k&m, go to console. For gaming + productivity, use pc. Simple, buy things based on your needs.

If you can’t decide between the two the best option is to get both!

Console = Cheaper / PC = less restrictions and limitations. PC for me, I don't want to wait for a game to come out to console when it's already out on PC.

Building a PC has never been easier. It’s “insert tab A into slot A” easy. You can find a ton of tutorials on YouTube.

Have a 7900xt PC and a PS5. Use both equally. Some games I don’t feel is worth playing on PC and burning through 400w+ when the PS5 is max 200w.
Also- PC at times reminds me of my work laptop. Mentally, I don’t need those reminders and can impact my enjoyment of PC.
Games like GT7 demonstrate how a proper dev team can make a game that, with a VRR TV, provides PC level enjoyment.

I started with PC gaming but switched for the exclusives. After 10 yrs, I've gone back to PC. There is no comparison. For the same $ or less, I've got better FPS and resolution. As you stated, with certain upgrades I can get better performance for less $ than a new console.

You can 100% build a pc on par with 9th gen consoles for around the same price. That only gets easier as time goes on as well

Ill never understand the "after a long day at work i want to come home and just play my games" argument for consoles like you cant do that on pc. Ive had my pc for almost 2 years now and you know what I do when i get home? Turn on my pc, click the game, and play. Idk why we're pretending like it takes so much effort to play a game on pc. Stuff like that is what kept me from building a pc for years, listening to these idiots on the internet. I wish I went to pc years ago.

I built my dream gaming PC (4080, 32GB DDR5, 7800x3D) after being a console gamer for the the past 15 years and I barely turn my PS5 on anymore. Games look and okay so much better on my PC. It’s not even close.

If you do your research then you can easily build a PC for the price of a new 500 console. It may not have 4k at that price point, but you'll be surprised at how good 60+ fps looks at 1080p. I started around 500 for and entry level setup then spent another 200ish for a better graphics card 1year later and now my setup is on par with new consoles
