Novel Therm's Green Energy Stirling Engine HPC Solution

A detailed description of a breakthrough modified Stirling engine. This engine has the potential to revolutionize green energy production. Applying this low cost technology to high performance compute (HPC) data centers has the potential to mitigate 183 tons of CO2 per mega watt of deployed powerplant (based on natural gas fuel, double the carbon footprint for coal fired power plants).

This hydraulic heat engine has enormous potential for micro grid applications, especially in geothermal resource areas. Because of its swift on time it can be deployed as a peaker power plant or utilized for shaping and firming the grid. Due to its low temperature (sub boiling) operation it is also suitable for cogeneration applications.

Since this machine does not operate on the binary cycle or organic Rankine cycle process it conserves energy and produces very high pressures. These high pressures are efficient for applications such as salt water desalination using reverse osmosis and pumping fluids.

The Sterling Engine is a good power source, as all that is needed is a difference in temps. The larger the temp difference the more energy is available so therefore more power output. But for some reason the Government is stuck with wind and solar so they have turned their back on this powerplant. Ask a politician in a government agency and they will ALWAYS say that they are obsolete tech that won't work. Well this engine has been around for practically 200 years and works, the problem with the old systems was basically engineering tech wasn't up to the needs for high energy outputs, and basically steam was more powerful per weight or volume of equipment. There was a Sterling engine that provided A/C electrical power to New York City at the turn of the last century that used the difference of surface and deep ocean water temps, it didn't work all that well due to there wasn't good piping that could handle the needs at the time, but it worked fine while the piping held up. I like this variation as it seems to be a more modern approach for energy conversion.

Consider the action of a convential heat pump - which can concentrate heat energy 4x. Add a turbo-expander to collect that energy. The challenge is in the efficiency of the turbo expander and the refrigerant used

How much money would how much power cost? How high are maintenance costs?

I wonder if this could be effective with orphan or abandoned oil wells.

when can we get one which will work on a modified woodstove?

Cooling systems in ICE/ Hybrid cars should use Stirling engines to provide 'free' energy for charging drive batteries and running the electrical system; it's already bad enough using engine power to run the air-con, when that could also run off waste heat using similarly ancient technology.

There is so much los grade geothermal in the northeast of America. I'd love to see more of this

Would not this work with Passive Vacum Tube Hydrosolar" water heater?

This should have been developed 100 years ago had it not been foe the oil moguls..

I am always dubious when the video claiming a big tech breakthrough achieved by some company comes from the company itself. It's more of an advertisement in that case.

They should speak with the US government about going green by building geothermal at Yellowstone.
