The world has changed dramatically in the past 12 months, and the role of AI and data science in improving society has been thrust into the spotlight more than ever. Join members of the AI Council, leading thinkers and scientists who will discuss how we can build public trust in AI, and ask, what is the roadmap to making real actionable impact for the UK’s communities?

---

The event took place via an online platform designed to bring a community together. The two interactive stages included panels and presentations from expert UK academics, policy makers, and industry leaders. There will also be roundtable discussions, hands-on ML demonstrations, and lots of opportunities to chat and interact throughout the day.

This event is for everyone operating in the UK AI community, and there was content from technical talks to accessible panel discussions. The themes and content are structured around the national AI research challenges identified by the Turing, the role of AI post-COVID-19 and the important key themes of the UK AI Council’s Roadmap:

Technology against climate change

As the UK takes the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) Presidency in 2021, the AI and data science sector is ramping up its research across environmental sciences and the use of technology to forecast and mitigate against climate change.

Resilience to shocks

Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UK must be poised to deal with future shocks and crises, from health, to defence and climate. Let’s talk about the different ways AI and data science can help make the UK more resilient.

A new epidemic

Following 12 months of lockdown life, the UK is facing the challenge of a new epidemic. Our panel of mental health and AI experts will talk about the current research and applications of AI and data science, to bolster and improve the mental health provision and services to UK society.

Doing better in data science

In the last 12 months the AI research sector has profoundly woken up to the importance of diversity and inclusion, with the growth of the Black Lives Matter movement, to the Ofqual grading controversy. How can our community continue to do better and ensure AI is for everyone?

Can AI fix it?

In an event co-hosted with Accenture, academics and market-leading companies will brainstorm challenges live, using the knowledge of a business or public sector challenge and turning it into an academic study. Come along and watch the action live and consider submitting your business for a future Data Study Group.

AI for smarter science

We’ll be showcasing multidisciplinary research happening across labs in the UK, from the biosciences, through to chemistry and astrophysics.

Bridging the skills gap

In a recent global index, the UK was ranked third amongst 54 countries for accelerating the development of AI. But how exactly do we work out whether the skills we are cultivating today will be enough to bring the UK to the future we are already committed to?

The UK AI Roadmap

Hear and engage with the UK AI Council as they discuss how can we build public trust in AI, and what is the roadmap to making real actionable impact for the UK’s communities.
