There were just shy of 49,000 job interviews conducted in January 2025 in Canada. That’s a lot of human resources teams interacting with a significant number of job seekers. The goal for both the interviewee and the interviewer is the same: the right job and the right person at the right salary – goals that benefit both the employer and the potential employee.

“It’s complicated,” says Michele Matthews of the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of BC & Yukon. “The complications in hiring include recruitment and retention skills shortages, workplace flexibility, well-being and mental health, DEI and now AI.”

Hiring is one of the most critical factors in an organization's success. The right employees drive innovation, productivity, and culture, while poor hiring decisions can lead to inefficiency, disengagement, and high turnover.
