Also, back in ‘the day’ there were strains of flax that have since gone extinct; finer, longer, stronger - they were fundamental to the creation of better fabrics than our machines can ever replicate.

I grew a delicate blue flax as an experimenr this year. It was obviously NOT even close to an original Egyptian strain because it was only 6" at its tallest point! I could just envision the work using something like that!🙀🙀

I so enjoy working with lovely linen and can fully appreciate all the grades. The same with hemp. They have a kind of shimmer. A lot of Egyptian clothing seems to be transparent, too. Fine, fine work.

I sincerly hope we at some point find new tombs with even more knowledge on their fabrics. Every new tidbit i learn about the old Egyptians, they keep surprising me! I love these little shorts with information like this! Fun break from longer content that I also adore!

What we generalize as simple i.e“primitive”… yet, in contrast, so skilled and so sophisticated. There’s a lesson here… 😊

I'd like to say thankyou for the non-invasive writing.

Did the Ancient Egyptians know about using a spindle whorl when spinning? The illustration shows a woman's hand covering the spot where a whorl would be. Have any been found? It would look like a large bead with a large hole.

I thought the phrase was "nothing short of exceptional ?". Do Americans say something different? Whatever the expression it certainly applies to Egyptian fabric. They coild make translucent linen cloth.
