We're no where near equilibrium and haven't been since we started burning large amounts of fossil fuels. Up until the 18th century CO2 levels in the atmosphere had been at about 280ppm since the last ice age. Past CO2 levels can be measured from air bubbles in ice core samples. Today atmospheric CO2 is about 420ppm. A difference of 140ppm. It took 100's of millions of years to store that carbon in the form of gas, coal, and oil, and we've dumped it back into the atmosphere in the space of 250 years.
