To anyone thinking this is a modnation ripoff, let me give you some details about the kartrider ip.

Kartrider is created by Nexon in Korea around 2004. The original kartrider is currently still running but only has server for Korea, China and Taiwan. The Original game is also f2p but with micro transaction. While this is a kart racing game, the main attraction (or focus for most players of the game) is the speed race with no items. The game has an very high skill ceiling. As compared to other kart racing games, you still drift to charge up boost, but drifting slows you down, the rate of the deceleration is dependent on your angle too. For the boost, the charge rate depends on your angle and speed of the drift. When you drift, a bar starts filling up, only when the bar fills up and your drift stops, it will be collected as a single charge of nitro for you to use, which you can hold up to 2 charges. So given a long curve, if you decide to drift continuously throughout the corner, you would only get 1 charge of it. But if you drift until your bar is full, then cut your drift to collect the charge before drifting again, you would then get 2 charges instead. If you hit a wall during a drift, you would lose the amount of bar you have gained during the drift. There is a drift button and a brake button which for certain tracks the brake button is very important.

I personally tried it during an exhange in korea when the korean friend i met there introduced it to me. There is even a fully fledge esports scene there. In terms of monetization, the fastest kart sadly tend go be paid, though unless you are eyeing for time trail leaderboard, f2p karts are still viable and can still win matches with skill. In terms of customisation, it is almost impossible to win modnation, kartrider only has colours and decals changes, character costumes, drift trails etc (no custom track as far as i know). If you want an arcade racer with close racing with simple buy high skill ceiling, i think this would be perfect for you. There is ranked matchmaking too. I personally am looking forward for this game very much due to english localisation and not having to use a vpn.

I love how 99% comments say "hey this looks like modnation racers" when modnation racers actually took inspiration from original 2004 korean kartrider, lol

Modnation Racers was made in 2010.
Kartrider's been around since 2004.

...I wonder if a lot of the dislikes on this video are actually just because Kartrider was made by Nexon, a company a lot of people associate with horrendous game monetization practices.

Kartrider is as deep as it gets regarding kartracers. There is item mode (like mario kart but more team oriented) and Speed mode with tons of mechanics to learn and an insanely high skill ceiling. The esports scene is super big in korea. Everybody who says it's just a copy has 0 idea. Modnation prolly copied this game, Kartrider is way older.

I played tested this game and all I can say is that this game was pretty fun

In my opinion, this was the best reveal at the State Of Play Livestream. It looks fun and easy to get into. The fact that it's free to play makes it even better. I reccomend people to at least try it before throwing any hate at it.

I tried the beta for this game when it was up on Xbox one and my lord the racing is the best ever.

It's so satisfying with a huge amount of room for tactics and tricks to out speed or outwit your opponents, oftentimes both at once

I played kart rider rush on android and it's an amazing online game! Now it's free on Playstation. Trust me this game will be fun.
