Menuhin Competition Cardiff 2008 - Ray Chen performing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto - Senior Finals

Felix Mendelssohn was born on 3rd February 1809 in Hamburg. His compositions include compositions include symphonies, piano music, organ music and chamber music, and, of course, his beloved Violin Concerto. Fifteen years ago, at the Menuhin Competition Cardiff 2008 Senior Finals, Ray Chen - then only 19 years old - was awarded Senior 1st Prize after his performance of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with Sinfonia Cymru, conducted by Garreth Jones. When we originally released this video, our master tape had been cut short but we have recently been able to retrieve the missing footage and are delighted to release for the first time the full recording in celebration of Mendelssohn's birthday.

15 years after that Ray Chen performance, a 15-year-old girl did the same thing at her first concert in Los Angeles a few days ago. This girl's name is Karolina Protsenko. The irony is that, a few weeks ago, Ray Chen gave her advice on performing in front of an audience (you can watch the video of their interview on YouTube). Karolina received thunderous applause at the end of her Mendelssohn concert.
