As of today, melt value = 6.44 cents. Not to mention, the added exposure to metals which will be vital to the electrification of the world.

At 2:55 was there a half dollar peeking out of that box? Or is my eyes playing tricks on me?

Why melt them? The government already guarantees their purity in nickle and copper. 75% copper and 25% nickel. And you don't have to sort them. Nickles are just a good way to hedge against inflation. Not so much to make a profit but more to preserve your buying power as the paper dollar looses value.

Nothing to lose because at the end of the day, they're still nickels. I say go for it and it could be fun to see the ridiculous amounts of nickels that would add up quickly

He was smart each roll is worth a dollar more each so 2 dollars in nickel is now 3dollars in metal in 2022

It seems to me that there's a reasonable middle ground between sinking your life's savings into only nickels and avoiding them all together. On the principle that one should diversify one's assets, what does it matter long term to save perhaps $100 or $200 worth of nickels? The same might be said for copper pennies. That amount of cents and nickels could be stored in one or two .30 caliber ammo cans and would consume relative little space. I don't think any of us could predict either the future price of copper or nickel much less know when these coins will no longer be minted.

I hoard War Nickels and it is dangerous to start removing smaller cents because it is the first step in transitioning into no physical currency. Great vid

I agree pull copper cents. Nickels aren't worth the effort

I agree with you, in part. Hoarding nickels shouldn't be a priority for anyone, but I see no reason why, in the course of everyday life, any person shouldn't simply hold onto any pre-1982 pennies or any nickels that they happen to come across. However, I'm speaking of people who intend to hold onto these items for perhaps 20 to 30 years. If you're doing this in the short-term to flip these items or something like that, then I'd bother. And nickels are not worth buying from the bank. I happen to keep both pennies and nickels. I probably have 30 pounds of pennies and maybe 25 pounds of nickels, but these have all been gathered simply by sorting my change at the end of the day for several years.

If you are going to be a commodities trader, and that's what you are when you hoard nickels or cents, you would have a much better return if you would just buy a gold coin (Eagles or buffalos). They are easier to sell, when the time comes. Also, , they are smaller, so you don't need boxes of coins sitting on the floor of your closet!

Very interesting video. I would have never thought about hoarding nickels for copper. I always thought people were hoarding pennies. And now I know it's probably not wise to hoard the nickels.

The 2009 is supposed to be a low mintage year. Plus it is the Westward Series.
