To me the calculation of the distance of stars from Earth is a conundrum. How do we really know when the light first started to shine? When you go into a room with the light on, how do you know when it was turned on? We know that light takes 11 minutes to reach us from the Sun, but we also know it is older than 11 minutes! We estimate it is about 4 billion years old, and about halfway through its life. How do we do that? So when we “discover” light from a distant galaxy it is just like going into a room with the light on, in my current opinion. The light could have been burning for 100 billion years? I would like to understand more about all this.

The images are really great. For me it is a testimony that there is a creator, it is impossible to conceive that the universe created itself. If I contended that my car created itself, I would be ridiculed. Yet some people hypothesise that the universe created itself.

Looks cool... just how do scientists know what way is backwards in time? It would be easier if the planets span round in circles around the sun, but their journey around the sun isn't straight as we are led to believe
So if another James Webb telescope was launched to go the opposite way than the first one has gone I just wonder what humans would see? Would it be the same?
