Two popular survival stoves are rocket stoves and alcohol stoves. Watch both in action as I boil water.

It looked like you overfilled the Ohuhu. You need to keep the fuel below the gasifier holes inside. That will drastically reduce the smoke. A rocket stove burns its own smoke as a secondary fuel. It's the gasifier effect that makes this kind of stove so handy and burn so clean. Also the Ohuhu comes with a alcohol bowl.

6 1/2 cups of water is a good amount of water for the little alcohol stove to get to a boil. Normally they are used to boil 2 cups of water for a dehydrated meal and then while you eat to boil some water if you wanted a cup of coffee or tea.
Not sure about the Rocket Stove but in my Solo Stove I can use the Trangia ( Like the Alocs ) as a 2nd heat source if I don't want to use wood.
As a true Survival Stove when you can not get any liquid fuel the wood burner is the only thing you would be able to use. Just like back in the cave man days, a wood fire but in this case an enclosed, controlled, one.
