The Ilyushin IL-62 is by far one of the coolest looking airliners ever made. Thank you for showing us around this museum!

Thanks for the tour! I have a Commercial pilot certificate in the U.S. and was always fascinated by Russian aircraft and their designs. I'm still amazed at the TU-144 Concordski! Early 2000, it was used in a joint venture with U.S. Boeing and NASA for supersonic testing because they already retired the Concorde. Hopefully we'll be able to see the TU-144 fly again someday. My next favorite Russian aircraft is the IL-62. I always loved the rear engine passenger jets. I always thought they were safer having the engines in back making it quieter and more enjoyable to fly while sitting at the front of the aircraft. Aviation has a small community of enthusiasts who love to fly and we don't care what country they are manufactured in. I would like to fly in all of them if I had the chance.

my first tour of duty with the USMC ( 1972 -1976) was in helicopters ( ch-46 & vh-3 ) so I found this tour of the museum very interesting ... I just wish the helicopter tour could have been in more detail but it was fascinating .

Made out of titanium Sukhoi T-4 bomber was a marvel 3 Mach plane, it was mostly automatic and was designed from scratch with the number of new technology involved of about 70%. This plane was designed to kill air carriers. A completely new plane was made out of titanium to withstand extreme heat generated by friction with air. That was the most secret plane in Soviet Union but it had the whooping costs of about 910 million US dollars and that was the reason it was scraped in favor of what then become White Swan bomber. Fair to say that soviet military met this plane with open heat it was liked but the Soviet administration for not yet disclosed reasons (probably the high costs) decided to shut the project down.

YAK
Yak-141 tidbit:
it is design from 1970-es, sa everything was still mostly analog. Pilot had to control VTOL system manually, and it was a problem.
But what is interesting is that Lokheed-Martin PURCHASED VTOL design from Yak and implemented it in F-35, but with a computer control.
