Mumbai Pune Expressway’s 13.3 km ‘Missing Link’ project by MSRDC is an under construction 8 lane access-controlled highway with a route alignment connecting Khopoli to Kusgaon.
The link with a string of viaducts, tunnels and bridges aims to bypass Khandala Ghat’s hairpin turns which are prone to landslides, reduce distance by 6 km, reduce travel time by 25 minutes, and provide a straighter route.
The project was approved for construction by Mahashtra Government’s Cabinet on June 13, 2017, and has a current deadline of March 2025.

People should see the videos of european highways . Lot of them are only 4 lanes wide, 2 on each side. But vehicles move fast, because everyone keeps their vehicle on slow lane and uses fast lane for overtaking only. Its just amazing to watch how discipline can significantly increase capacity and average speed on a road

The uphill section is always jam packed every night, not due to holiday or something, it's due to the heavy trucks and lorries movement at night which are unable to climb at consistent speed- they span across all 3 lanes till AMRUTANJAN point . Just as you cross the point, it's absolutely clear ahead. 😃

I agree, it can solve problem but I doubt it will.

Just drove yesterday on expressway. One thing I noticed this time was that no heavy vehicles were driving in right lane. Probably due to CCTV cameras. That was a great refreshing change tbh.

you are right, people dont follow traffic rules that is major issue. this missing link will reduce travel time in normal working days, but during holiday when there are new drivers on the road and taking out vehicle without proper fittness is again going to jam the traffic. as one breakdown vehicle on any road makes lot difference when number of vehicles are more.

I have a suggestion. Please add English subtitles for all your videos. This will increase your views

This will solve the problem to a great extent because large transport vehicles will not need to go to Lonavala. In today's time, everyone values time, so this will solve the problem.
If we talk about lane discipline, I regularly travel from Mumbai to Surat, and I feel that the truck drivers on the Mumbai-Pune highway are more disciplined.

The main purpose of the missing link is to streamline goods carriers that find the ghat difficult to climb. And the second equally important reason is the boulders and mud slides that endanger traffic in the monsoons. That it will also ease passenger vehicles is a bonus.

Great video! Till they ban heavy vehicles that drive in right lane without reason and force them on the old Mumbai Pune highway moving forward, this can't improve! We have moved far ahead as a country and we shouldn't accept such ignorant behaviour!

I came through on the 13th. The ghat section was completely jammed in the evening. Trucks moving on all lanes create bottleneck along this entire stretch. It took 5 hours to reach home from Mumbai. Sad..

No matter how much lanes we add... Traffic will keep increasing.
Mumbai Pune needs a high speed mass transit rail link.

Great video visually explaining why this project is required. I liked the drone views from inside the tunnel exits. It gives an idea of the beautiful view, people will see while exiting the tunnels
