2019 Volvo S60 R-Design vs 2019 Mazda6 Signature

We're looking at two former Ford Motor Company divisions with the 2019 Volvo S60 T6 R-Design AWD vs the 2019 Mazda6 Signature.

We're comparing two different, yet somewhat similar sedans on TestDrive Showdown. We want to see if the $39,150.00 Mazda6 Signature is on-par with the $63,750.00 Volvo S60 T6 R-Design. Great idea for a comparison test. After hearing auto journalists rant and rave for years about the handling of the Mazda 6, I have often wondered exactly how it would compare to something punching above it's price point and more luxury oriented. This review answered some of that for me. Thank you.

I actually cross-shopped the 2019 Volvo S60 T5 R-Design and the 2019 Mazda 6 Signature when my 2016 Mazda 6 GT's lease end was coming up. So, it's not the strangest comparison. I ended up with the S60 T5 R-Design w/ the Polestar tuning option for a variety of reasons, but that Mazda 6 was a ton of fun to drive, especially in the canyon roads around Los Angeles. The 6's exterior styling is getting a little stale, despite the nice refreshes, and I'm open to returning to Mazda depending on what comes next for the 6. Still love Mazda and what they're doing there. But I'm really enjoying my Volvo.

Great informal review, thank you! I'm currently looking for a sedan in the segment and these 2 cars are the one that are remaining on my shortlist. A Volvo S60 R-Design and a Mazda 6 Sky Cruise Takumi cost around the same here in Belgium: while the Mazda6 is much more loaded on specs, the S60 has everything you need. Your review is really helping me to decide which to go for.. in my case the Volvo. Better seats, better interior design and quality, better audio, that's what is convincing me, thank you!

I love both sedans. Mazda should seriously consider adding awd to the 6. If they did that, as well as some kind of torque vectoring system, the 6 would be unstoppable.

Good job comparing the two, both have interested me and both look good.
I think the mazda's rear-end is better looking than the volvo's (yet the volvo wagon rear-end looks great).
Both sound like they have strong motors, too bad they've eliminated manual options, that would've been fun.

I've recently heard all the endless countless reviews about the 10 generation Accord and all of them mostly praise it like crazy, then after awhile Honda was accused of paying reviewers and basically telling viewers to say good stuff about their Accord. Seeing a torque figure of 310 @ 1, 600 rpm coming from that Mazda is interesting....it must feel like a diesel accelerating....super easy, really smooth.

I'm stuck between the Mazda 6t and 3 turbo... The 6 would win for me if they added option for awd(that power/torque is iffy) Update the infotainment to what the new 3s have (better relosution for cameras and layout)
The 6 cupholder design sucks because you give up a armrest and it makes the cubby tiny.

For the Mazda 3t if they offer the red interior on the sedan and cooled seats I'm sold! 😁
