China Coronavirus Death Toll Climbs

Jan.29 -- China’s coronavirus is spreading further. The death toll has risen to 132 and the number of new cases surpassed the total for SARS. Hong Kong announced restrictions on travel from mainland China and Japan is working on evacuation plans. Bloomberg’s Stephen Engle reports on “Bloomberg Daybreak: Europe.”

Where did the 5 million who left the original city before it was locked down go? That was half the city. How do you lose half a city? I will not be eating any protein bars made in China after this, until I know what happened to those missing citizens.

It is fewer deaths compared to the number confirmed infected than SARS, but it takes days for a person to get sick enough to die, so you really have to compare the number of deaths right now to the number infected many days ago. When you do, the percent dead is much much higher. If the virus stopped spreading right now and no new people got infected, people would still continue to die exponentially for many days.
