Awesome scene, Bond is missing his left love- Vesper! Looking Sad, drinking too much in disappointment. Awesome scene from the movie Quantum of Solace. Also 007 has a delicate heart!

What is really sad about this scene is that Bond knew the name of the drink he was drinking, but he refused to acknowledge the fact by making light of it. As if not telling the barman or Mathis what he named the drink would hurt him less. In Casino Royale, he had decided to call the drink a "Vesper". I like the new Bond movies, as they play the character with a bit more of a human side.

Such an underrated movie, in my opinion.

This scene and Mathis’s death are what really makes me love this film. People get caught up on Quantum and the villain and the editing issues but none of this is as important as these plot points. The Bond villain in this film is not the antagonist. Bond is his own antagonist and protagonist in this story, with the goal of this film being moving on. Moving on from Vesper and from the life he almost had with her, but was ruined. This film while it does have its poor editing and does push the villain story alongside quantum, mainly is about this, about Bond becoming the person we know and for him to move on from what he was

Love this film and love this scene. Totally in love with Giancarlo Giannini as Rene Mathis.

Mathias asking what he was drinking was rhetorical. When he interjected with, “Kina Lillet” that was the que that he knew Bond was already drowning himself in namesake of that drink

I love this scene as the first time ever we saw 007 drunk. QoS wasn't that bad in my opinion

My question for this scene has been.. did Mathis recognize that bond was looking at vesper’s picture and necklace. I would like to think yes, he was tipsy to say the least that his action to hide was slow almost like he didnt care to be seen at this point trusting Mathis again and desperately at least at this moment to connect with someone who knows Vesper and that she truly loved bond. He needed to hear that for his own quantum of solace. This scene was the scene that won my heart regardless of what others say about this film. Great scene.

Asks the barman what he’s drinking, knowing full well what he is drinking, but he doesn’t want to say the name.

To put this into perspective that is 675ml worth of spirits.
18 x 25ml of gin
6 x 25ml of vodka
3 x 25ml on Kina lillet
That’s 675ml or 1.1 pints of pure spirits! Jesus!
That is like almost drinking a whole bottle of 70CL vodka or gin for extra comparison.

It's tough when the woman you loved never loved you and always loved another man.. A woman that just used you...

“Some make you taller” I get the feeling that was an inside joke because I swear I remember people at the time complaining Craig was too short to be Bond

Glad to read positive ratings on QoS in the comments posted. Up to this moment, I'd only read bad ratings on it, such as "the worst Craig's movie as 007", but not to me. To me, QoS has been underrated too. The story is pretty realistic, that is, how governments get captured by huge private organizations, how natural resources are disputed, and connects very well the story in CR to SP, mainly to the conversations held at Spectre's midnight reunion. In addition, we see Bond struggling to deal with his feelings on Vesper, as said in the previous comments, as well as Mathis turning out to be an ally after he was considered a suspicious one in CR. Such emotional scenes added psychological depth to QoS. To me, for example, Spectre is not as good as QoS. I mean, the story in Spectre is coherent, but things seems to unfold very fast, besides we find a Bond out of his "darkest" Craig style.

Jesus Christ he had 6 of them. That’s 18 measures of gin, 6 measures of vodka and 3 measures of the other thing.

Is that enough to kill a human being?
