We built an off-grid Micro Cabin living system at the end of 2023 for less than $25k! It took us 30 days of building to finish all of the off-grid systems for shelter, water, energy, sanitation, & food. We're tying together solar panels, a prefab shed, chickens, rainwater catchment, raised beds, methane digesters, and more into a fully functioning off-grid home. We hope this experiment shows you that affordable, sustainable, modern living is possible with off-grid systems!

Welcome to our 30 day off-grid build for October of 2023! We’re assembling sustainable, affordable, off-grid systems to provide for the 5 basic physiological needs for 2-4 humans: Creative shelter, fresh water, green sanitation, clean energy, and local food are things that make the world truly better and more enjoyable. Beyond having fun building all of this and sharing it with you, one big goal for this project is to clearly illustrate how creative & sustainable solutions can solve our housing affordability crisis and free young people to avoid working paycheck to paycheck to survive in our modern economy. We need a fresh vision for living well! Many people are seeking a closer connection to nature, a slower pace of life, an affordable lifestyle, a sustainable lifestyle, and freedom from being indentured to our modern economic system. Mostly though, we just love building off-grid systems!

Big Thanks to All Our Partners in off-grid living:

Would love to see a video about the daily maintenance needed to keep the wood stove up and running, what total wood is needed to heat the home and how long it takes to prep. Great video as always!

Awesome job!

I want to bump this in the algorithm but also to encourage anyone reading this to PLEASE try and change your local zoning ordinances to allow for stuff like this! It's a long process (I'm working on it now) but nothing will change if no one does anything.

Might have missed the video where you discussed this, but it needs to be pointed out that in a lot of places, this wouldn't be allowed.
We're building off-grid, but are having to do a lot of work arounds to stay within regulations.
A THOW because if it's on wheels in our county, it's not regulated. A shed wouldn't be legal because it's not big enough. Some counties don't allow water collection/have regulations for it. Some counties/states require you to be tied into the grid, even on solar. We're pretty sure our THOW exempts us in our state, but its a very grey area. Some counties no longer allow wood stoves/highly regulate the stoves. The composting toilet may not be allowed in some counties. And you may have to get permission to allow shower/sink water to drain onto your property (grey water system). Also, chickens (usually roosters) may not be allowed in your area.

All this to say, I *HIGHLY* encourage people to do this! But, know the law, and choose your property wisely. Don't think you can go onto just any property and do this set up. Do your homework so you won't be heartbroken by over regulation. BUT, of you're fully informed, you'll rock your off-grid lifestyle.

love these updates!! Also would love to see a daily chores video. Also interesting if there is a per person number to the data. Like for enough eggs for 2 people you'll need 4 chickens or something like that. For 2 people you should have 2 sq yards of raised garden beds or something.

You should look into a rocket mass heater for a wood stove, also I wouldn’t recommend going through the ceiling. It’s harder to air seal and water can penetrate it easier as well.

So badass. I would love to see you guys do one up in the northeast or in colder environments. It would be awesome to see what you guys come up with. I love the mini home idea, I’ve been thinking about this for awhile

Why not try a split unit for heating and air? They're used often in Europe.

Would a rocket mass heater be viable in a project like this to replace your current wood stove?

Thanks for sharing and my opinion about "Join and/or Patreon" in today's society everyone wants in your back pocket for a subscription "why" if I mis content because I'm not subscribed, then I think to myself, its not worth it, there are plenty of copy cats to choose from, but that is my opinion. there way too many ads now, rather its google or internal, seems like we have lost sight why we became content providers in the first place, its just like corporate greed, thanks for listening to my rant, have a great day!

How do you guys do laundry and bathe? Would love to see a tiny laundry machine and a place to hang dry clothes, even in the winter
