Battle of Britain Memorial Flight takes to the skies to remember Operation Market Garden

BBMF Lancaster is only flying Lancaster in EUROPE. There is one in Canada, that was in the U.K in 2014.

Me and my mate were there for the 80th. We are not ex service personnel but were there to show our support for our armed forces past and present. Spent a fantastic time with the Paras in Arnhem. Upmost respect to all and that includes the Dutch.

A great display by everyone involved today to commemorate Operation Market Garden and the battle for Arnhem in particular. And well done to the spectators who appear to have turned out in their hundreds. Let's not forget the significance of the Lancaster's open bomb bay doors on its second pass, as they were used to drop thousands of tons of food supplies to the starving Dutch population in the winter of 1944. A correction to the commentary; obviously there are 2 airworthy Lancaster's as the BBMF Lancaster flew displays with its Canadian cousin here in the UK a few years ago.

Odd that the Battle was a failure but is remembered to this day by the heroic act of these young lads. And may we never forget!!!

OP market Garden was not a total failure as it did liberated large parts of the Southern Netherlands , also remeber to this days. . Son/ Eindhoven . etc etc.

Living a few miles away from RAF Coningsby we get to see the lancaster and spitfires that fly over when off to flyover events. When they start her up on runway the sound is so amazing.

There is FM213 in Canada that flies. She came over to the UK in 2014 for the summer. Amazing to see her fly with PA474.

There will be a 2nd airworthy Lancaster in Europe hopefully in around 5 - 6 years. NX611 based at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre (ex RAF East Kirkby)

I think the commentator needs to revise his cheat sheet about airworthy Lancasters. *Canada* has one that's airworthy.

There is more than one Lancaster that can fly there are atleast 2 the second in Canada and there maybe also a third

Market garden is an odd choice for remembering since the entire operation was met with almost resounding failure across the board. Interesting choice...
