Nice video/topic. I am just curious for people who use AI in their workflow, do you let your clients know that AI will be used? I would as I would want them to know that a third party (potentially one i have no control over) will be assisting me in the image editing process.

An addendum to my first comment: For those photographers who make a living from their photography, using AI software programs such as Imagen to help with a large workflow is perfectly understandable.

I use Aftershoot to cull and Imagen AI to edit. It has saved me a ton of time on editing. However, I still go through each image and tweak it whenever needed. It used to take me 4 to 6 weeks to edit weddings. Now, it only takes me a few days. I rather enjoy being behind my camera than behind the computer. Honestly, I hate culling, LOL!

I'm not a photographer but I stay watching because your production value is top notch, and there's always a chance of Ram Jam!

Here’s an interesting question Vanessa. If we get the job done faster and we don’t have to edit as much. Should our customers expect us to charge less in the future?

Curiously you did mention a point that bares repeating.

Ai at this point in time will not be able to recreate a moment in time that you yourself captured. If Ai somehow begins to create things that happen while you where taking the images I think I’m ready to jump ship because that’s just creepy. However the rest of what you said is what I personally believe is “ it’s just another tool”. Use it ..don’t use it but recognize it’s here and someone will learn how to use in there favor. Thanks for your insight.. I think it’s spot on.

Not to be too critical Ms. Vanessa, but was the purpose of this video to promote Imagen AI software or to inform photographers about "AI taking over photography?" Personally, I think AI is going to play a HUGE role in photography in the future. Whether that be to fully take over as both photographer and editor, or be the next president. To be perfectly honest, I use Lumnar Neo and most all the AI editing features it has, I also use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop (I'm not certain but I think Lr and PS both have some AI engineered stuff). How long will it be before we see a full AI takeover? I don't know, and I don't think anyone else knows either. I'll be 67-years old next month, my guess is I'll probably not live long enough to see AI in its full "adulthood." So, until the time comes when I'm dispatched from this Little Blue Dot, I'll just keep trying to become a better photographer and editor using the tools at my disposal, whether those tools are AI infused or not.

I like shooting weddings, I hate the back end and talking to clients. This is why freelance is a great option. fraction of the cash but way less headaches.

I think AI for editing, but not changing, photos is going to be huge. I can see it inspiring me to change the way I edit photos in the future.

Photography will remain -just like painting- but it will be split in different categories:

1) Film will make a re-return and this time it will include new cameras and cheaper film
2) Digital photographers will use AI to assist with posing, editing and culling (like Imagen.AI) but the pictures will still be taken by photographers and have their own unique look
3) Image generators will eventually be called "Ai"tographers
4) A new kind of digital "sculptors" will emerge. The subject will be introduced in a pod and scanned and the sculptor will generate 2d images or prints 3d models (or use robotic arms to make marble or wood statues)

Some cameras will feature everything and anything AI related and some will be as "basic" as a Leica M.

In the end the only people that will be left behind will be those that spend time complaining online instead of working on their craft.

Great retrospect. I fully agree with your point of view and find it a bit comforting. However, I think AI is going to kill off some of the "weaker" aspects of photography. For example, LEVIS announce they are using all AI models and photographers. I also think headshot photographers days are numbered. Thanks for the insight. You are appreciated Vanessa.

I think AI will eventually replace most portrait photographers, because the software will eventually be good enough to compensate for cheap equipment and bad lighting. I think it will eventually be able to give you any look you want with a few clicks.

So far, AI can’t replace my bokehlicious lens, however, I’m comfortable with shooting high ISO (fix with ai
Denoise later )now so FF is not a must for my use.

AI will eventually take more roles in photography. The question is: how far will it go?
Have you seen the Pope wearing puffer jacket photo? It's using AI and got a lot of folks duped

When the hype is over and AI is established, I would use AI editing for my self taken photos. To me an AI image feels not as valuable as a real photo, it feels like cheating somehow.

Great perspective, Vanessa, I completely agree. AI has been used in photography editing for YEARS. It’s just a buzzword. Editing features like “content aware fill”, liquify, adding makeup or lighting have been around for decades!… all of those things do certain aspects of editing without the editor ‘thinking’ about each pixel. The tools are getting better… that’s it. As for AI replacing photographers, I don’t see how. Think about the things photographers are hired to capture like events, special moments, stages of a persons life. Now, graphic design artists and editors may be in trouble unless they embrace AI, but then again, they already have even if they don’t know it.
