What if you could live sustainably but with all the modern amenities? If you could downsize without feeling like you’ve lost anything at all? Tesla has come up with a solution that might suit your needs - and it might just be exactly what you’re looking for.

Welcome back, today we will be looking at the new project in collaboration with Paolo Tirami and Elon Musk’s Tesla. The overall aim of Tiramani is to create an option that will bridge the gap for unhoused individuals. This prefabricated home is built with an area of 20 square meters and a height of 2.90 meters. While currently holding a value of about $50,000, the aim is to bring it down to a more affordable market - just $10,000. While the project and business have taken off in Australia - we can still look at what they’re doing and why this might be the pre-fab home of our dreams.

(1) how does clean water come into the house and dirty water go out of the house? (2) can this house also connect to electricity provided by the city or is it limited to only solar power? (3) will it take internet lines from city (like fiber optic cables etc) (4) is it possible to have multi level house or is it always single level?

We all know this can be done, Federal & state governments are always talking about it, but that’s all they do is talk.. Imo these tiny houses could help solve many crises going on here in America & around the world..

Elon Musk bought into Boxable. He's only slapping his name on some of these, and providing the solar and batteries. Of course they are going after the homeless marketing angle first. It's a virtue signal, and how you get sweet, sweet government grants. These can never be built for $10k. Only through gov't subsidies. But, just take a look at how all those "affordable housing" projects have their costs magically balloon over the course of the builds.

I've already started building tiny eco modular homes just now... and the hinderance behind anything "affordable" or even "off-grid" is the county permitting process. The need for an engineered septic, even before you submit your building plans. This is a quick $20-$30k right off the top, BEFORE you start paying architects, civil engineers, land surveyors, structural, land work/grading etc, for them to do what they need to do, before you can even pour your concrete pad or piers. Assume every one of those guys asks for $5k each. Then concrete work could easily balloon into $30k just by itself. And we've not talked about the price of the land either.

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble... but building affordable housing or even cheap off-grid home is way out of the reach of us regular peons. You need to have at least $100k in cash to even get started. That's if you plan on doing ALL the labor part yourself, and can finance the rest of the build through a hard money loan against the land. Then refinance the finished build with a traditional mortgage, to pay off the hard money loan for the construction.

Looks okay to me. I'm retired now and I live in senior housing with one bedroom and a microscopic kitchen. But if I were still working, I wouldn't automatically dismiss this. But I would need some privacy and some land to grow a few tomatoes. The technology, I'd figure it out.

I think this tries to do too much: just it folding out to being a nice home is cool enough, all the "smart" and energy efficient features could be optional or even added later when the home owner is financially ready. It would also help if they had several manufacturing facilities in different parts of the country to keep shipping cost low - it doesn't help keep cost down if you build this in NV and somebody in ME wants one! at $3 per mile to ship your adding about 50% to the home's cost!

Anyway, thats my take on it.

this video is a joke. This isn't tesla at all. It's a Boxable which is manufactured in Las Vegas, NV

Tesla is not making "tiny homes". The fact that Tesla is mentioned so prominently, means that you can't believe anything else about this video, either.

Wish they would allow combining 2 units of more. I would do a 2 bed 1.5 bath.
