I always thought that there was only 1x Winnebago that took a boomer on Red Flag? It was not escorting B1s though, and it was working with Aggressors on the final day - the day we stopped simulating MiG 23s and were allowed to use SOP tactics. It was a good day on the range with a few F16s and a pair of F4 Wild Weasels chalked up (we ran out of ACMI simulated missiles and there was no respawn point). If I recall we were doing roughly M1.3 over the top at 250ft on the edge of the supersonic area with an F16 trying to catch us (no chance!). The Winnebago didn’t fare very well and our sonic boom will have travelled several miles after that… 😬 I have a picture somewhere of me standing with the F3 with a dayglo kill marking. Must try to dig it out at some point. But it wasn’t with Midds, I was flying with someone else.

What a brilliant account of an unfortunate accident. Did anyone ask what the Bago was doing there near the range?

Reminds me of the other Mach1 story of the buzz the tower Falklands style where the shock wave rearrange one of the buildings because they couldn't slow down quick enough. Roy Macintyre I think it was.
