I read Kindred recently as well. It is such a powerful book. Despite being decades old at this point, it remains relevant (like most of her writing).

My two top favorite books so far has to be «The Veiled Throne» by Ken Liu & «The Winter King» by Bernard Cornwell, followed by (in no particular order as of yet): «The Farthest Shore» by Ursula K. Le Guin, «The Winter Road» by Adrian Selby, «Salammbo» by Gustave Flaubert, «The Retreat to Avalon» by Sean Poage and «The Way of Edan» by a certain Philip Chase! 😃

Special mention to:
>Bind 1# of the Norse Saga «Flatøybok» (Gorgeous leather-bound edition and illustrated by the simply brilliant Anders Kvåle Rue!)
>«The Little Emperors» by Alfred Duggan (Love very dry British humor on politics and bureaucracy (so many great quotes!), and excellent description of how (possibly) Roman Britain fell!)

I would love to read Stormlight again (for the 3rd time expect RoW) but it's so challenging to read non audio books with my 4 year old. WoR is my favorite though, and you're right there are so many quotable moments!

My favorite book of this year has been a surprise, Morgan Is My Name by a Sophie Keech. It’s a solid 5 stars that came out of the blue. I picked it up on a whim, and I devoured the story so quickly. It’s a beautiful referring of Morgan le Fey.

I loved The Wishing Game. I agree with you about the beginning but it takes off after that.

I had a pretty good reading quarter overall, although not a lot of 5 stars compared to the beginning of the year. But the best ones I've read are Nettle & Bone, The Twyford Code, The Collected Regrets of Clover, and The Wishing Game (which I had just gotten from BOTM when I saw your review and bumped it up my TBR list).

After seeing you gushing over the Aurelian Cycle, I decided to pick it up a few weeks ago, and Fireborne became my first 5 star read this year. Other favorites are House of Hollow (Krystal Sutherland), One for My Enemy (Olivie Blake), Elantris (Brandon Sanderson), When You Disappeared (John Marrs), and Lillesang (Nina Blazon) :)
