I remember reading once that many doctors were aware that lobotomies would do little to help their patients, but would have them performed anyways because it would make them easier to care for. This is because severing connections in the brain can make people more docile, with the minor side effect of permanently reducing their mental capacity.

I had an illegal backroom lobotomy performed at 14. They tried to turn me into a sex slave, and use me for other nefarious reasons. I was rendered unable to make decisions when I was also drugged. A girl I knew had the same procedure and was blinded in one eye. My stepfather and mother were awful people, and had many "friends". I'm in my sixties now and still have deficits. Until 14 I was at the top of my class. This country is not safe for children. When I was a child, and even now, there was no one to help me. Criminals rule.

Not only do you literally go around and destroy brain tissue without knowing which part does exactly what, but those ice picks were often also not sterile, and thus there was a high risk of infection such as encephalitis.

If anyone wonders... Lobotomy is no longer practice, it was only practice în the years 1900-1950, it was used for phisyc things, now there are used other surgeries for physhic things..

Lobotomies actually had a very high success rate. It was high risk high reward situation. However it was soon removed from practice and replaced with... you guessed it antidepressants and other drugs.
