If those SD-card stickers are really writeable, they solve the identification problem that occurs as soon as there's more than one in the work area. (It might have to be slightly indirect, a number or code referencing an external index entry, but that's better than nothing.)

The solar/DC battery charger is at the heart of one of my earliest projects (improved MightyMintyBoost). The only complaint I had was the big honking electrolytic cap, but it still fit in the project case I got so that's fine.

That is part of the reason why I was recently investigating making custom PCBs that accept power from 802.3at POE+ and power LEDs and connect devices via Ethernet rather than CAN or LIN. I found that it's probably more cost-effective to get a compatible active splitter instead.
