Pro Tools Missing Audio Files: Relinking is EASY!

If Pro Tools cant find some of your files, that doesn't mean they're gone for good! And no — Automatically Find & Relink is NOT always the best option to track them down.

i am done with Pro Tools. its a nightmare of a "DAW" for a beginner such as "me" it's terrible! ...i a m using Pro tools First. and this not the first time i've had to type and search YouTube for the experts help. im obliged. the fixes for every issue or error that i encountered 10 out 10 times THE MENU ITEMS are NOT THERE. can't find the SHIT!! .... for example; in your instructions you said WINDOWS/NEW WORKSPACE/DEFAULT but on my verserion of Pro Tools, New Workspace is not on the (i did not understand what i was getting into) what is another DAW sofware that has less limitations set on the DAM menu? thank you for the video. it would have solved my issues but in another sense this video did help!!

Thank you for your help with this. It's not easy to see that there is a check box which needs to be clicked next to the volume folder for the linking to work and your video showed this clearly.

Thanks for the help, but it doesn't seem to be working for me. I also tried simply finding by name or finding by ID, but the files are still unlinked. Is there something else I can try?

Any advice for when files have already been emptied from the trash? I added a video to my session with the intention of only using the audio, but winded up ripping the audio online and converting it to an mp3. I've since deleted the video from my trash, removed the clip from my clip list, and ProTools is still attempting to relink the file and start video engine which is causing CPU overload and preventing me from moving forward in my session. If there's anything you can suggest to assist, I'm all ears!

Please help bro this happened to me when I imported beat stems, my session crashed once the import finished and when I opened up the project again all the tracked vocals were gone?

I tried relinking manually and even selected the specific file but for some reason the file I try to relink is slower and with lower pitch and doesnt let me re link it correctly. But it is only slower when I her it though the pro tools relink, when I open the file regularly on windows its perfectly fine. Any suggestions?

This procedure does not seem to work with PT 2024.3.1... the menus are different and the option to relink in the New Workspace popup when you right-click does not exist. What version of PT are you using?

Here's one for ya...what if the files that you need to relink are in your session but aren't in your relink tab? Blank clips that aren't even registering as if they're there to begin with.

All my sessions are not relinking . When I launch Protools it says Protools “intro “ instead of studio . Is that the reason why my files are gone ? I can’t even duplicate a track

I cant seem to do this on the new version of pro tools. In fact. after updating from 11, Pro tools kind of sucks. It constantly crashes. They changed things that didnt need to be changed. Its very slow sometimes and im running on 64 GB of ram i9.... Strongly considering switching to logic.
