Apparently, Spielberg was totally blown away by Hopkins in this speech so much so, that Spielberg could only refer to Hopkins as Sir Anthony. Sir Anthony is the greatest actor in my lifetime. Just saw him last night in “One Life” on the big screen. An understated and brilliant performance

A brilliant soliloquy by one of the best actors of ALL TIME--well done, Sir Anthony!

To think Anthony did this whole speech in ONE TAKE.

One of the greatest unsung American presidents ever. Had great dreams for the nation as president. Accomplished more after he left the White House for the American people than he was able to do during his term. Should be remembered more.

Sir Anthony Hopkins argued this case before Supreme Court brilliantly.❤😂

I like it, he talks of how monarchs want client courts that fulfill their will, then hints at the US Supreme Court becoming an institution that simply rubber stamps other’s work (ie like Spain). He strips it all back to its roots in hints and nods, that freedom lies at the heart of the matter, that the seized men’s yearning for freedom comes from the same place where the Founding Father’s desire for freedom came from. He hints at the US losing its way, and that they must call back to the wisdom of their ancestors to find the courage to fight for what is right rather than allow the immoral to continue simply because it is easier, and people are frightened of the consequences (CW).

Why would a person only put up half the final speech or court defense by John Quincy Adams at the end of this great movie Amistad? I wish I knew how to do it. The full speech is inspiring, thought provoking and brilliant!!!

Have you ever noticed that the only ones who thought slavery was a good thing were the ones who weren't slaves. Ask any slave how they felt about the matter and it's an entirely different answer. Turn the tables to make those slave owners the slaves and watch them sing a different tune. The ignorance of some humans is astounding.

It’s crazy how a JQA movie came out before a mini series about his father did

Leaves him with scarcely anything to say. Proceeds to speak for more than 8 minutes

1841 is pretty early for a pocket watch in the United States, but he was an educated man in regard to technology. So....

I am going to be the one to point out that at 02:45 that is one of the worst possible arguments imagineable:

"Decide for me, not because it is the right legal decision, but because of how some foreign ruler will react to it"

Is it just my imagination, or is Hopkins' "American" accent a little wide of the mark? As an Englishman, I frequently hear American actors mangling British dialects. Perhaps this is an example that goes the other way 🙂
