9:50 speculating here but, maybe Nima just solved the problem here.... What if modified gravity turns out to be retrocausal. That's why we won't be able to solve it.

I hope that's not true, would love to solve this mystery.

Could it be that Nature is constantly performing a quantum eraser experiment on the vacuum energy and thus allowing for a tiny loop hope for what would otherwise be acausal? After all, the exchange symmetry has no "range" in space or time!
