People don't understand. Not all the spines stay on every cactus. See their long pants and their thick tennis shoes? Yeah, there's a reason for it. I pieced up a piece of broken driveway asphalt once that was just in the pot with the cactus. It was like 10 inches away. Then a spine ended up poking into my finger. And letnme tell you, optunia cacti spines are no joke. It was as big as a toothpick. Imagine all the spines in the dirt, ones that flake off with the slightest touch, and ones that the rope slices off, all those falling or in the air even as they do that. Guaranteed they've gotten poked a handful of times for that.
